Biden supporters are lovely people but they're weak. Mentally, physically, and morally. When it's time to caucus and they see Bernie with the much bigger group, they will go to Bernie. They will see his strength and seek his protection.

I love when Bernie goes in with the nice guy we're all friends routine but he's just getting ready to twist the knife: "My friend Joe, great guy known him for years... how's the wife Joe, she doing good? Wonderful. Wonderful lady. Anyways me and Joe have our differences. I voted against going to Iraq, Joe voted for it. I voted to help working families, Joe voted to help banks. I voted against NAFTA, Joe voted for it" etc etc etc And what's Biden going to come back with? Probably something about pragmatic legislating or "how you gonna pay for that," and Bernie gets an easy layup with either a quick line from a campaign speech or telling Joe that we pay for everything by taxing the billionaires contributing to Biden's Super PAC. Edit: debate wild card is how much the moderators have the knives out for Bernie. They might try to really go after him this time and he'll need to be ready to take on the usual bad faith questions. Klob and Butt and Biden aren't threats, but "impartial" moderators can get away with framing things really unfavorably if they get the opportunity. Of course if they do go after him hard it means Bernie gets to talk more, which is likely a win for Bernie since he's the one up there who actually has good ideas and believes in what he's saying. So I don't really feel like digging up a headline for it, but apparently Bloomberg committed to using his funding and infrastructure to campaign on behalf of whoever the nominee ends up being. Supposing for the moment that he actually follows through, what would this end up meaning in the context of Bernie's small donor pledge (because he's going to win, you see)? Admittedly I'm not very familiar with campaign finance regs or the exact details of Bernie's commitments wrt his funding sources, but my understanding is that it wouldn't necessarily violate the letter of the pledge because Bloomberg would essentially be acting as an independent PAC; is there some mechanism by which Bernie can go "thanks but no thanks" and tell Bloomberg to gently caress off and keep his money (to be taxed later) in a way that's actually enforceable?

I don't think I'm wrong. I generally fail though to defend that for any reason other than that I believe his messaging, which is so effective to low-engagement voters from any alignment, is the best chance the Democrats have. I still think about that Joe Rogan podcast, and how his Bernie segment resulted in a libertarian-leaning youtube comment section of all places to be universally united in support of his message. I think if you put any candidate in front of 1000 random low-engagement voters, Sanders would consistently get the most support, and turn the most into engaged voters.

Plausible scenarios (from most to least): 1. Bloomberg is lying and won't do it for Bernie 2. Bernie politely declines and urges him to use his resources for Senate/House/State races. 3. Bernie tells him to gently caress off and Bloomberg runs a bunch of anti-trump ads on his own. That's honestly about the only decent way to respond to that.

I really love the "when are they going to vet Bernie" schtick going around, as if he hasn't been relentlessly attacked for the last 4 years. But I especially love it when it's a ex-Clinton staffer saying it, because it's a tacit admission that they ran an incredibly lovely campaign to not even vet their (essentially) one and only opponent.

This vox piece was good re: black voters https://www.vox.com/identities/2019/11/4/20926701/black-voters-democratic-primary-2020 quote:Take, for example, the aforementioned 2008 Democratic presidential primary. While then-Sen. Barack Obama’s success over Hillary Clinton is often remembered — as is the fact that black voters began to overwhelmingly support him after the Iowa Caucus — what often isn’t as readily acknowledged is that for months before this, there had been a noticeable split in the black voters backing him and the black voters who weren’t. Early in the contest, Obama was supported mainly by younger black voters, as older voters and many black politicians backed Clinton, pointing to her established history in the black community, her work during her husband’s presidential administration, and for some, their belief that Obama wasn’t well-known enough to be electable. Blows my mind that Obama and Clinton were 50:50 among black voters in the South https://twitter.com/jemelehill/status/1172549979602161665?s=20
