I don't think anyone liked the Nilfgaardian armor. Truely an awful piece of work.

I enjoyed watching Emma Appleton as Renfri so much that I'd like them to cast her in another role in the show. Preferably one requiring swordwork.

Thats it exactly. Some googling later I found that theres a known bug here that if you draw the wraith too far from the crypt during the fight it wont teleport away as its scripted to, and will just keep on fighting in an unkillable state. a reloaded save solved it for me

After collecting all the gwent cards, is there really any point to gwent anymore in the game? I finish the quest thrilled to have complete set then it dawns on me that there is no one else to play gwent against for more then 20 gold or a bunch of junk I can find in random barrels easily enough.

There's an entire new deck to collect in blood and wine and you better collect the full deck because the Touissant Gwent tournament is impossible without the top tier cards.

Renfri was awesome and so well cast. I just finished my second viewing of the season and started a third last night, finished episode 1 for the third time. The first two episodes were the weakest to me on my first viewing, but each time I watch them, and with the foresight of the whole season, there’s so many good things about those episodes. And that fight scene with Renfri and her henchman never ever gets old. One thing any Witcher medium has to get right is Geralt’s swordplay, and they nailed that.

Fourth play through and just finished that quest line less than an hour ago. Dijkstra’s motivations make sense to me: he wants to continue fighting with a unified north and not become a vassal to Nilfgaard with Kaedwen and Redania gone and Temeria in name only.

BUT, the way he goes about it is dumb and I think it’s the one tiny area of the game that didn’t get the attention it needed. Dijkstra is a master spy, well educated, well informed, and very well networked. While he does offer Geralt the opportunity to walk away, I feel like his decision to kill his co-conspirators with a lovely small force of dudes that Geralt, Roche, and Ves would eat for breakfast. Is poorly thought out and executed. Why not poison? Why not deception?

I do think part of that bit of poor quest handling is a way for the developer to both include Geralt and give him agency. But feel like there were better ways to handle that. And I don’t feel that way regarding pretty much any other part of the game.

Then show one of those small cutscenes referencing unintended consequences at the end.

Yeah i think it would've been interesting if you had to actively double cross dijkstra to get the 'good' result, otherwise you just learn that the other co-conspirators died mysteriously and dijkstra does his thing.

A lot of the third act feels perfunctory in the writing- and a lot of the worst of it came with the radovid stuff.

In It For The Tank
Feb 17, 2011

But I've yet to figure out a better way to spend my time.
A lot of new people are playing this game for the first time and the question of mods keeps coming up. Although there is a list of mods in the second post of the thread, it's a bit outdated now. I've created a new mod list of most of the ones I use, which includes links and brief descriptions.

Please see below:

---

Firstly, you're gonna need the Script Merger (https://www.nexusmods.com/witcher3/mods/484) because mods aren't inherently compatible with each other. It can resolve most conflicts but you're going to have to manually resolve many on your own. It often requires a lot of trial-and-error, so good luck. You can find tutorials in the link.

Many of the most popular mods include versions that are either compatible or pre-combined with other popular mods, so make sure to look out for those to make your life easier.

Secondly, get The Witcher 3 Mod Manager (https://www.nexusmods.com/witcher3/mods/2678) for an easy way to activate/deactivate your mods.

Thirdly, install the Unification Patch (https://www.nexusmods.com/witcher3/mods/2134). This standardizes the game and makes it compatible with mods.

Now, you can start downloading mods. I recommend the ones listed below.

Gameplay:
- Better Parries: https://www.nexusmods.com/witcher3/mods/1698 Allows you to parry/riposte attacks from enemies that would normally break your guard and stun you. Geralt will instead perform a quick evasive attack that he normally reserves for certain types of monsters. Also, lore friendly :colbert:.
- Better Torches: https://www.nexusmods.com/witcher3/mods/1990 You can perform more actions with a torch equipped.
- No Skill Restrictions: https://www.nexusmods.com/witcher3/mods/2207 Allows you to level up any skills in a given tree without unlocking the earlier tiers. Makes gameplay more interesting and enables more specific character builds.
- TW3 Gameplay Tweaks: https://www.nexusmods.com/witcher3/mods/2205 Contains about a dozen minor gameplay tweaks to make the game more playable. You can pick and choose which ones to install. I recommend the following: being able to jump in water, being able to jump and sprint when using witcher senses, no falling damage, igni destroys monsters nests, no gear level restrictions, and no zoom when using witcher senses. NOTE: Don't download "Fast Travel from Anywhere". Just don't.

Immersion:
- Fix for Lab Music: https://www.nexusmods.com/witcher3/mods/2165 Fixes the music for a certain cutscene that fails to play in the default game.
- Friendly HUD: https://www.nexusmods.com/witcher3/mods/365 A huge overhaul of the HUD that allows for a more immersive playing experience and includes a bunch of quality of life options. If you're willing to take the time to set it up, you can customize it to suit your preferences.
- Friendly Meditation: https://www.nexusmods.com/witcher3/mods/2067 Makes meditation an in-game action rather than a menu option. Really impressive and lets you appreciate the world that much more. Also includes a lot of customizable options for things that are connected to meditating (e.g. refilling potions).
- Lightsource Yrden and Igni: https://www.nexusmods.com/witcher3/mods/2853 Yrden and Igni create light in the darkness. Makes the game more cinematic.

Quality of Life:
- Auto Apply Oils: https://www.nexusmods.com/witcher3/mods/625 Automatically applies the appropriate witcher oils whenever you enter combat with an enemy if you have that oil available. NOTE: If it is your first time playing, you may want to wait until you earn the "Even Odds" achievement before applying this mod, as it will prevent you from earning it.
- All Quest Objectives: https://www.nexusmods.com/witcher3/mods/943 Shows all of your quests on the map, rather than only the active one.
- Disable Storybook Intros: https://www.nexusmods.com/witcher3/mods/816 Disables the recaps that play whenever you load a save. Saves you a good couple minutes of unskippable cutscenes everytime you start playing.
- Merged Free DLC - Mod: https://www.nexusmods.com/witcher3/mods/3334 There is a set limit for the number of mods you can install. Under normal circumstances, this won't affect most people. But if you're like me and you have a lot of mods running, this mod can increase your limit by merging all of the free DLC that comes with the game into a single file.
- More Quick Slots and Quick Inventory: https://www.nexusmods.com/witcher3/mods/1221 Exactly what it says on the tin. Gives you another bunch of quick slots and allows you to quickly access your inventory from the signs menu.
- No Time for Gwent: https://www.nexusmods.com/witcher3/mods/2060 Controversial, I know, but allows you to instantly win any gwent match by pressing a button. Ideal for subsequent playthroughs where you want to complete the gwent sidequests but have gotten bored of the minigame.
- The Gwent Card Dealer: https://www.nexusmods.com/witcher3/mods/1054 As above, potentially controversial, but ideal for subsequent playthroughs. Makes one of the vendors in Crow's Perch sell every gwent card.
- Sort Everything: https://www.nexusmods.com/witcher3/mods/1710 Provides you with options to sort your item menus.

Graphical/Misc:
- Better Icons: https://www.nexusmods.com/witcher3/mods/1701 Just what it says, better icons (e.g. more legible icons) for your equipment.
- Lore Friendly Ciri: https://www.nexusmods.com/witcher3/mods/685 Slightly changes Ciri's makeup. There's also an option to darker her hair (to ashen rather than white) but I don't use that one.
- No Artificial Player Light: https://www.nexusmods.com/witcher3/mods/2414 Removes the lighting that follows Geralt around, especially in interior environments. Makes exploring a little bit more interesting (now torches matter!) and removes the changes in lighting in buildings.
- Toxicity - Clean Face and Screen: https://www.nexusmods.com/witcher3/mods/254 Removes the green screen effect and toxicity veins on Geralt's face from imbibing too many witcher potions. Can be customized so you only remove the green screen but not the veins and vice-versa.

Overhauls:
- LEGO - Loot Economy Great Overhaul: https://www.nexusmods.com/witcher3/mods/3369 Overhauls the loot and the economy of the game. You no longer need to go searching through the peasants' houses for junk to sell, the shopkeepers sell things at reasonable prices, there is a sense of balance with the items and weapons you can find, witcher contracts become even more important as a means of earning money, etc. Everything is scalable and customizable so you can adjust it to your liking.
- Ghost Mode: https://www.nexusmods.com/witcher3/mods/992 I would reserve this mod for a second playthrough. Overhauls all gameplay to make it more difficult (watch out for insectoids!) while also changing many parts of the game to make it more immersive, balanced, and interesting. Everything in it is customizable as well so you can change things to your liking This is a popular mod so many of the other mods are compatible with it. NOTE: consider downloading a mod that allows you activate all the skills you have unlocked without needing to equip them if you’re like me and insist on playing on Ghost Mode’s Death March. You’ll need it.

I've only ever checked the first page for the mods list prior to playing the game in depth.

For a game like this having that somewhat recent is enough for anyone smart enough to know a 5 yr old game being actively discussed might have major plot details dropped here and there.

I'd say anything about Ciri or general plot once you complete the investiage Skellige, Velen, and Novigrad quest should be spoiled. I dont feel there was anything major up to that point that would be completely ruined by learning the details of. At that point now it feels like I barely know more then I did in the first 5 hrs of the game aside from the curse removal in Kaer Morhen even though that was very obvious as soon as that curse subject became a plot point.

There are a couple sidequests that involve Gwent tournaments and there are some halflings that you want to play against and lose to (obviously any crappy deck will work in that case).

Expansion pass purchase just makes the individual DLCs free in the PS4 shop and then you have to DL them from there. Weird.

I've never used vortex so I can't comment on differences, but MM seems very easy?

The Merged free DLC mod has been deprecated due to locating the system limitation on amount of DLC.

I'm considering installing ghost mode but it's not compatible with LEGO.

I also saw FCR being a requirement of one of the mods but it is also incompatible with some of the other mods and merging scripts doesn't fix it, so LEGO is mutually exclusive with some of the other mods.

Considering how passionate he is about rebuilding the north into something not poo poo, I think it was a calculated risk. It's probably the toughest decision in the game to make, to be honest. It would have been harder had Iorveth been in the game since I can see him siding with Dijkstra after hearing the speech he gave Geralt on the pier.

Iorveth hated sorceresses as much as he hated humans, he wouldn't give a poo poo about them being burnt at the stake. He would also be quite happy for Nilfgaard and the North to kill each other in wars and is probably hoping that they successfully decimate each other so that the Elves and other races can rebuild a free Vergen and be left the gently caress alone
