Hi metal thread! Usually I put out a show every two weeks of electronic music from the Middle East and/or South Asia. This time, I did metal (plus some hardcore punk/grindcore/etc) from both regions. https://www.mixcloud.com/Cola_al_Karz/iliktronik-vol-10-a-mad-thrash-through-the-middle-east-and-south-asia/ If you haven't heard Al-Namrood from Saudi Arabia, I highly recommend checking this out. Also, there's a sludge metal band from India called Dirge that I've been pretty obsessed with lately. The vocalist is just amazing. (And I just found out he also does vocals for the Mumbai-based hardcore band Death by Fungi who I've loved for a while, so basically dude rules) Anyway, sorry for the self-promotion, but I really want more people to hear some of these bands!

CRIP EATIN BREAD posted:hey cool, checking them out. Fun fact about Al-Namrood, they are completely anonymous because their anti-religious lyrics could literally get them executed in Saudi Arabia. They use a lot of lyrics and imagery from pre-Islamic Saudi Arabia, it's pretty interesting. I talk about this a little in the show (though I sound like poo poo because I've been congested for weeks, oh well), but I also play a Saudi grindcore band called Creative Waste. They actually played a metal show in Saudi Arabia in October, which was the FIRST public metal show there in a decade. It will be interesting to see how much MBS's push to make the country seem more open will extend to bands who may not fall in line with the usual moral/religious standards.

Yeah you're absolutely right, I don't know what the hell was going on with that this week. Definitely going to have to play around with my recording setup before I publish again. Thanks for listening, though!

Henchman of Santa posted:I’m watching the Death documentary Death by Metal (on Prime if you have it). Really good, surprisingly warts-and-all look. I knew Chuck had a reputation for being demanding and a perfectionist but a lot of that band’s turnover was really him being an rear end in a top hat. I’m sure if he were alive he’d reflect on it as being young and stupid though. Watched this and agree with what everyone else is saying. Chuck seems like a flake, and that coupled with whole "ignore a problem and it'll go away" attitude makes it seem kind of crazy that the band lasted as long as it did. The idea that a person in their 20s can't handle being away from home for a 2 month period just blows my mind.

Some people aren't built for long term travel or touring. I know I've turned jobs down in my early/mid 20s that required extensive time away from home.

You guys probably know this album by now (wilderun - Veil of Imagination), but I just heard it and find it really great. Usually not a fan of long songs and proggy stuff, but these guys are sounding awesome - and every song has a few moments which make you stop and really listen. It has the adventurous charm of Turisas mixed with the grandiosity of Devin Townsend, a fair sprinke of Opeth and their own thing of course. Really great album, it's been a while since I've liked something straight away without having to 'digest' the music. That show probably had similar rules to Top of the Pops, i.e. "Most performers on TOTP mimed until 1991 when the producers of the show allowed artists the option of singing live over a backing track." It's kind of weird that Celtic Frost didn't insist on playing live, but the Swiss are an inscrutable people

This is great and it's also awesome to hear Igorrr go back to doing more breakcore than metal. I liked Savage Sinusoid but it was too much metal, not enough breakcore, also not silly enough. Hallelujah, in my opinion, is a much better album. I know it's the wrong thread for it, but Igorrr was better back when he was producing the music solo rather than being a whole touring band. Looking forward to see him / them play this year with Author & Punisher in London.

Nordick posted:Far from where Dreams Unfurl is a really cool song and has been sporadically stuck in my head since I heard it months ago, but all the other tracks from this album that I've checked out just fail to grab on to me. Bit too proggy for my stupid lizard brain to follow, I guess. I totally get you, and most of the time i'm the same. I get easily impatient with songs, especially in prog that take too long to get to the point. There are moments in this album where I feel like I need to forward or wait out, such as 3-4 minute acoustic intros and soft singing. If they could just reel that sort of thing back a bit, it would be a better album for it. However, when those cool moments hit, they are worth it.

New release today, Vengeful Spectre out of China. Meloblack with heavy chinese folk elements, this was such a great listen. The usage of chinese string instruments (I am too dumb and american to know them by name) is incorperated so well and the whole album is insanely polished for a self released s/t.
