the yeti posted:Rules As-Written? Yeah. The tabletop game suffers from late 80s game design pretty badly because it tried to be a "realistic simulation" and have an actual written rule for every possibly scenario (want to pick up and throw a five-ton sack of rice with a BattleMech? There's rules for that!) Alpha Strike is a much better game and the new BattleTech RPG rules (currently in closed beta) are incredibly solid and playable rather than the overdesigned mess A Time of War was, so I'm glad CLG is finally taking steps into the 21st century. HBS BattleTech sparking new interest in the series was the best thing to happen to tabletop in decades.

So glad they switched to actual art for portraits instead of computer portraits that look worse than stuff from EVE Online 10 years ago.

So playing the campaign for the first time and I got a Marauder. This seems a little ridiculously overpowered. 4 large lasers, 35% chance each of scoring a headshot equals a lot of dead, perfectly salvageable assaults.

Most of the new stuff from HM is pretty OP, to be fair. But the Marauder is basically cheating, yes.

I almost beat the base game at launch but somehow burned out near the end. I remember the last thing I did was opening some vault on an ice planet and the BIG mechs unlocking. Thinking about diving back in with expansions. Is there a logical way to do this? i.e. Should I just go back in, beat the base game, and then buy the expansions, or would it be smarter to just unlock them all before going back in?

On top of that it also reduces all incoming damage to your entire lance by 10-25% due to how the game's rounding works!

Would I need to start a new campaign to see the new mech variants in the upcoming patch or will they just show up?

Are the three DLCs worth getting? I've finished the campaign, and was curious about the new mechs/scenarios for a Career run. Steam reviews has them as "mixed".

The DLC is worth it, imo. Heavy Metal in particular adds a lot of new mechs and weapons.

What's the best way to outfit a Marauder? I was browsing through the steam forums and people seem to think a single UAC/5 plus a couple ML's is perfect if you have a sniper piloting it. I ran this last mission and it worked pretty well but feel like the accuracy on the UAC was generally pretty poo poo.

If you want to Mega-cheese a Marauder, equip it with a -Tonnage Gauss Rifle and ER Medium Lasers, and then just always Called Shot the head. You'd be surprised at how many decapitations you can get.

In the vanilla game I have glitch w/ called shot mastery riding one with 3 AC/5s and an LLas and she’s an executioner in it.

I finished the Heavy Metal campaign! I also lost a fuckload of my best equipment and a 10/10/10/10 pilot! It's going to take ages for me to replace all that Gauss ammo and Double Heatsinks. That final battle does not gently caress around. Horace Kinch fucked around with this message at 01:32 on Jan 20, 2020 |

I got BT3068 working properly and.....all of my attacks miss forever. This is just Roguetech in disguise. God loving damnit. Edit: Yep this modpack has CBT rules as a forced module. Uninstalled in record time. Can someone recommend a mod that adds a ton of content but doesn't force tabletop's lovely rules down my throat? Is there any way to hunt for a particular chassis in shops? I'm at 3/4 of the CN9-AL and that's all i'm missing to finish off Mediums. Asaults I can wait and farm 5* missions for, but I don't want to do any more lower star missions if I can

I have spent no less than nine million C-bills now buying up Griffin 2Ns on the black market just to strip out their double heat sinks. As a bonus I get to have mechs that work OK in the restricted tonnage missions. Overall, good value!
