Here's a house that I've seen in person (at least the outside), it's in a neat small town in New Mexico: https://www.realtor.com/realestateandhomes-detail/104-E-Market-St_Silver-City_NM_88061_M15128-13123?view=qv If I lived there, I'd be thinking of grabbing it.

I saw and read about some flakiness there, but I think they're outnumbered by average people, especially if the rodeo crowd is any indication.

I absolutely love these curtain rods from West Elm, but the issue is that, aside from being obnoxiously expensive, at their longest they still don't span the biggest window in my house. I *could* install two on that window, but now I'm at $300+ on rods, plus the sunk cost on some DIY components I've already bought. The only real stumbling block to doing this as a DIY is that I can't find finials (the cap at the end of the pole) that look anything like that. My initial solution was to use copper fittings from the plumbing section at home depot, but it turns out they don't come in a big enough size for what I need. So, any ideas where I could acquire something similar to those? https://www.westelm.com/m/products/...2b%20Windows%20>%20Window%20Hardware

This stuff is good for making wood look a little more like metal under paint- https://www.rustoleum.com/product-catalog/consumer-brands/auto/primers/sandable-primer-spray/ Or you could gesso and brass leaf it, but that's a pain in the rear end. Remember it's going to be 8' up in the air so nobody is gonna be inspecting it too closely. Otherwise call a machine shop to turn them out of brass bar stock and if they don't laugh at you, the West Elm ones will seem really cheap.

Does this thread have opinions about attractive privacy fences? Mine is rotting and falling over. I will replace it with cedar pickets, but I'm torn on going with a horizontal fence or just keep the standard vertical orientation. Also, opinions on having a dealer applied or just leaving it in its natural state. My property has steel galvanized posts but the contractor that wants to do my fence wanted to install wood posts and do a horizontal orientation. Wood posts seems like a downgrade, but then I've never seen a horizontal fence that utilized steel posts. I'm in central Texas, for whatever that's worth. My yard is ugly but I want to do some landscaping and exterior work to eventually make it more attractive.

I like concrete slotted fence posts. They last, they look good, and if you pick one panel to not bolt down to the posts you can use it as a secret exit/entrance

Maybe y’all can help me out. Awhile back somebody in this thread posted some pics from a real estate listing that start out normal, but then suddenly you get to a room where the wallpaper is a forest scene with water going through it, and there’s a black fake-stone fireplace with a carving of an Indian head in it. Can any of y’all help me find that post? I need it for something.

Kaiser Schnitzel posted:This is ugly as poo poo and look likes Fred Flintston'es dresser or something to me, but veneering all those complex/compound curves successfully is actually pretty incredible. Assuming that's not a render of a design not yet executed, (which I suspect it is-all his 'sculpt veneer' stuff is just on white backgrounds, not on a floor) that's pretty technically impressive and it's gonna cost some serious $$$$$ to actually have fabricated. I though the guy actually built it, instead of just drawing it up, and I was thinking Oh poo poo, that's a king craftsman. gently caress that guy. But, the piece has charm, imo, don't be pissing on Fred Flintstone, come to terms with your inner Cro-Magnum.

That would be really cool if it was out of a giant log, knowing its veneer makes it do less for me.
