I don't remember if it was mentioned here, or if this is exactly OSHA, but it was certainly interesting to be woken up at 4AM by my cell phone going insane. False nuclear plant warning in emergency alert system likely a routine test gone wrong, government says

You're not supposed to throw it above you so it lands on your face. I know a woman that tried to hold a lawn dart target up above her because...I dunno, she's not dumb, just hey hold my beer I guess. And got a dart in her cheek for her poor judgement. Unlike lawn darts, it's still pretty easy to get water and boil it and hurl it directly above you.

I've made it work before at -holyshit degrees (I forget exactly but it was -25 or less), but also flipped the water up and away from me and with the wind because at the very least I didnt want a cloud of snow in my face.

You can never be too vigilant. in 2008 there was a spam virus that warned in Finnish about the meltdown at the nuclear plant in the town of Mikkeli and how the fallout cloud is spreading and authorities are not allowing media to report on it... the problem was there are no nuclear plants anywhere near Mikkeli

I filmed a co-worker doing the boiling-water-into-vapor-snow trick once when it was an extremely dry -30. We checked the wind direction beforehand. It was pretty cool.

hellotoothpaste posted:Sounding like whatever this place was, anything explodey enough in these processes? HVOF, high velocity oxygen fuel. Lots of oxygen and acetylene and giant flames. Typically not an explosive process but they could have been spraying something pyrophoric or had an accumulation of flammable materials that ignited the gas. This process is really common, probably just a plain old industrial explosion. Not typical for the Houston area.
