I happen to have two tubes of toothpaste from different brands handy (one's about to run out and I couldn't remember what kind I had when I bought the new tube) and neither say not to eat or drink after brushing. However, my bottle of mouthwash does say to use it immediately after brushing and then not to eat or drink anything for half an hour. Also, LAB, I'm so happy for you. Revelations like that are life-changing and that must be such a weight off your shoulders.

Grats to LAB. Also, flouride is not nice stuff. Great topically, tolerable in small doses (where epidemiologicly it makes sense to have it in water) but otherwise is bad. 3 mins of contact is fine from a kinetics perspective. Rinsing is good.

This song by The Tragically Hip: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=E_RSJ6xuHbE I always thought he was saying "Don't tell me what the boys are doing" but apparently it's "Don't tell me what the poets are doing" I mean, it's right there in the name, how did I not get that?

Most importantly though, and I’m sure I speak for everyone here - don’t rinse after brushing. The toothpaste has to sit there. You can’t eat or drink anything after except toothpaste. If you’re hungry yes, you can eat a tube of toothpaste. It doesn’t count. You can also drink mouthwash anytime and it also doesn’t count. Remember that.

Hey LAB, congrats on your realization. Stuff like that is never easy even when you have a good support structure. You're a great, positive influence on SA and I think everyone is behind you!

Also, it's very slightly better to floss before you brush instead of after.

I've read about some people doing it because they think, somehow, that brushing after flossing will "push back in" all the crud they just flossed out. To which I say...why aren't they rinsing after flossing?
