It's a really easy idea to talking point around though, every D should just be pulling some variation of, "Rs control the chamber, they can call any witness they want, and I'll support bringing forth any witness relevant to Trump's misconduct."

Even if they did, there's no intelligent argument to be made so... it may very well be the most intelligent ones are just intelligent enough to realize there's no point.

Thread on Bolton and the book. Makes good points. On executive privilege..I'm not a lawyer but I will note the Parnas stuff came out only after the courts let it be released so the argument that Bolton just let is spill like Parnas ignores that Parnas sought and got court permission for releasing everything.

Nah, in a lot of these interviews there's just no intelligent defense that can be made, so it's better to play dumb and essentially duck the question instead of demonstrating that you do understand the facts but choose to not follow them to the obvious conclusion.

I doubt Bolton himself leaked it. I would assume it would be someone from the publisher or someone in government. I'd assume it would be government due to the timing and where it went to. Likely it probably came from the White House itself, like the call record, thinking that it would play much differently than it has. If the NY Times has something it ALWAYS is a purposeful leak from the White House.

He went through this giant, rambling story about how he interned for a Congressman who voted on the Nixon stuff and went through how Republicans voted for it as well and they weren't afraid.

Now he is making a bad arguement that Trump did nothing and that impeachment is not constitutional.

Remember all those times leaks would happen about the administration having meetings about how people were leaking? The White House had a copy, sure, but it doesn’t mean they wanted it to leak.

Yup I do. They still have never caught anyone who has leaked.

I can see them leaking it thinking that Fox and the Right would use it to smear Bolton as a "never Trumper" and whatnot so they would have some cover for not voting for Witnesses. It would also get the heat off of the legal team. Like releasing the call record of the Ukraine call, it only makes sense to worm brains.
