confirmed the sickout strike at the Sioux City office today which is hilarious, our coordinator was like "eah, you get a buncha socialists together in one place this is bound to happen" lmao Had another lovely day out in Sheldon, whoever cut this one turf put doors at least a mile apart and that poo poo sucks. No car because we took a minivan of people out. Anyway. Langers Bar has been warmly hospitable and welcoming to us, well beyond what we could have expected even on sympathetic, non-Steve King turf. Really wonderful comrades in there, and in the future, it's the remote field office for sure. Came back to the office and hung out a bit, several people went to a lecture at the library by this guy who's Tim Faust-adjacent, Dr. Anand Bhat. I hung out and did a bit of data entry to clean up the day, then grabbed our newest volunteer Trevor (in from Seattle lol) and went to the Diving Elk which is a pretty bougie bar for Sioux City. It's cool though, they're staffed entirely by Sanders Sibs so they were excited to see 10 of us show up and started passing out beers and such. Met a brilliant woman Lacy and her husband Brett, locals who have a connection with, and whose family are hosting, my dude Peter, a bartender from NYC who I've been knocking doors with this week. The NYC crew reassembled with us after the lecture, and somehow our comrade John (of passing-out-while-yelling-on-my-floor fame) literally brought Dr. Bhat to join us. Everyone is relative strangers and yet we all sat down and immediately just spooled up the banter like we've known each other for decades, it was incredible. Late in the evening after several drinks, we were talking about cops and public transportation in context of the subway (of course) and Lacy volunteers that she has a DUI on her record and therefore is a felon, which means she could not vote for several years. I mention that the evening prior I'd talked with a woman in Sheldon who volunteered the same information, after which I pitched her hard on reenfranchisement and Bernie goin' hard on the prison industrial complex. After hearing about the ridiculous process she had to endure to restore her rights, I asked Lacy if she had ever recorded this poo poo and published it somewhere to raise awareness and she got extremely quiet and said "with three kids? are you fuckin kidding?" Turns out when she was arrested, the police plastered her mugshot all over facebook (public) and she started being harassed by the puritans in her community, getting expelled from neighborhood orgs, getting shut out from advancement at work (she's a nurse, a superhero in my book), even receiving threats of physical violence for DARING to have a drink and then transport herself via the only available method in 95% of the geography of the country. She said it ruined her life, in those words. She wouldn't dare speak out or speak up because it would just invite similar reprisals from the people who live around her, and the risk to her kids is very real. We were all drunk enough for that to make a severe dent in the mood for the evening. It is one thing to statistically understand this as the reality of the world around you. It's quite another to witness, again, like the many times before, a real spark die in real time at the recollection of unspeakable harm done on behalf of a lovely culture steeped in reactionary puritan bullshit. I'm loving FURIOUS. anyway bernie gonna win i'm gonna make him win if it kills me

This year we moved to a primary so when I received a ballot in the mail since we're a vote by mail state (seriously it's the best and should be mandatory Nationwide along with ranked choice until majority) I was very excited. Turns out it was just for a dumb school levy, I'm not selfish so I always vote Yes for those. Selfishly one of the schools to get renovations will be my son's future high school so that's pretty great not as great as my vote in the coming weeks for the Bernman but still satisfying. same,.and I miss the caucus since it was the only irl voting experience I ever got to have especially since last time I caucused for Bernie but also sagely nodded at the speaker who said "remember, no matter what happens, vote democrat" and now don't have the chance to go BOOO

Did some texting last night and encountered polite Trump supporters. Several apologized when they said who they were supporting. Some of them complimented me on standing up for what I believe in. I choose to believe these folks retain some decency that will swing them over to vote for Bernie after he wins the primary. Fellow texters, what state has given you the most abuse? Definitely Wisconsin for me.
