Also, Gogo is explicitly unknown gender, no?

There was a theory going around for years that Gogo was Setzer's long lost rival/lover Darryl, but I think that died down after Final Fantasy V got a proper English release and Gogo was in that as a summon

Gogo's not a summon, but they are a boss fight blocking the Mime class. The way to beat them is to prove your mastery of the art of Mime, by mimicking them. (They don't do anything, until enough time passes and they congratulate you and then cast X-Zone on themself, chucking themself out of that universe. I think they reset the fight if you do anything else, unless you manage to kill them in one hit.)

It's something someone mentioned in another thread so I'm gonna take any opportunity I can to point that out. It happens in a lot of turn based JRPGs that aren't about big casts of characters like say, Suikoden or Fire Emblem or FF Tactics.

No if you attack they mime you by attacking back

If you attack they respond with 9999 damage.
You cast magic they respond with flares, holys and meteors

Gogo is not a very good mime

Hah, Merzbow is top of the list? I guess Merzbow's been the butt of obscure hipster band jokes long enough that I guess it earned that spot, but Boards of Canada is surprisingly well known.

I think there are a few times Gogo was referred to as "he" in the translation but yeah, the description is "this person is wearing too drat many clothes to tell and has an indeterminate voice so ." Gogo is just...well, Gogo.

I can't pretend to recognize all of these bands, but the ones I do recognize are noise-rock/post-rock, and Brian Eno was pretty much the inventor of that kind of wibbly boop beep boop music.
