The Enterprise-D faced more combat in any single season of TNG than most modern navy ships will ever see. She's also, like, the one Starfleet ship to survive battle with the Borg, so if anything they ought to already be pretty dang hard.

Counterpoint: The Enterprise is also the ship that while Riker was in command got taken over by Ferengi using ships that were a hundred years old, only two episodes before Jellico took over.

Yeah I have a strong feeling the Federation turning inwards in Picard is going to be implied as the start of the fall that leads to the failed 32nd century Federation in Discovery, despite the 700 or so year gap meaning it makes no sense.

It's more a hamfisted bit about neurodivergency that...hasn't aged well, but is better than other contemporary things dealing with the subject. There's a season 7 episode that people tend to have more of a problem with in this regard than the one you're watching now, for a couple extra reasons beside this obvious one.

I do have to say that Picard has been pretty slow since the first episode. Lots of build up but not much going on. I have enjoyed Discovery more up to this point.
