They only gave me ibuprofen, even though it was bad enough that I needed surgery. But it cost me like nothing and there was nothing sketchy about it. But if that happened here, gently caress that I'm not getting surgery in China, I'd be out of here even if it cost me thousands.

Ko Wen-Je facts: 1. his nickname is Ko-P, which can be done in an interlingual pun w/ korean because ko-pi means "nosebleed". Round out the triple language pun by saying, "What does a vampire have for breakfast?" "Ko-P" the observant reader will note that the english-taiwanese leg will work, the english-korean leg will also work separately. but you gotta have the english leg, kinda 2. BrainDance posted:They only gave me ibuprofen, even though it was bad enough that I needed surgery. But it cost me like nothing and there was nothing sketchy about it. The American opioid epidemic is super scary poo poo and everyone outside the USA with a functioning health care system wants to keep anything similar from happening at any cost. Most European doctors will now only prescribe ibuprofen or something similar even after small to medium surgery, just what is needed to keep the wound pain and inflammation down. I had a pretty big hernia surgery done a few years back and only got a couple of strong ibuprofens with me when I was sent home. Opioids are now reserved for major poo poo and you will have a hard time getting a prescription for home use. Thanks, Big Pharma!

The one and only time I got an opioid was when I had such a bad cough that I felt like I ruptured my lung. I got a small amount of codein in a low dosage and was advice to only take them as long as I absolutely need them.

So epidemiologists are basically of the opinion that covid-19 is not contained in china and will eventually go global. China's economic output is at a standstill, which is going to have ripple effects on the global economy. Steel demand being paused in China is pretty compelling. China's actually restricted free movement of physical cash to prevent spread of the virus. If having a credit crunch impacted the global economy in 2008, I can only imagine what restricting the movement of actual cash will do. Is there any timeline on when travel will resume to/from China? At this point in the SARS epidemic, number of new cases had peaked and/or leveled off. Current number of Chinese infections continues to grow at a mostly linear rate.

Hadlock posted:If having a credit crunch impacted the global economy in 2008, I can only imagine what restricting the movement of actual cash will do. Probably not that much? China's financial system is still relatively closed off to the outside world and it has pretty strict capital controls for the movement of cash both in and out of China. I'd guess it would be a problem for loans to overseas infrastructure projects or for countries that depended on Chinese lending to make up current account deficits. But for the rest of the world, the main issue will be supply chain problems and not to their financial systems. The credit crunch was much more of an issue back in 2008 because it hit precisely the markets that the vast majority of businesses rely on for overnight lending. China's financial system does not play an equivalent role in the global markets at this moment.
