might as well ask this here LPOTL apparently just went over to spotify with an exclusive deal, which unfortunately fucks me over since I work in a secure facility that doesn't allow devices with cameras or an internet connection onto the floor. That means I have to actually download all my podcasts onto a dirt cheap sandisk clipjam. Does anyone know of any places where I can still download LPOTL episodes, or if there is some secret way to download them on spotify?

Spotify only lets you download and listen offline on devices that support the app, and despite their relative popularity they don't seem to have the readily accesible bank of mirrors of their free and premium episodes like a Chapo or RWN. I'd just take the L and maybe listen to podcasts that aren't the same stale recycled jokes and "improv" responses by a bunch of rapidly physically and mentally deteriorating sellouts

AnEdgelord posted:I was only just starting to try them out so after hearing them name dropped in this thread a few times, the Skinwalker Ranch and Men in Black episodes were pretty entertaining the early episodes and most of the ones about the paranormal are fine I guess especially if you haven't already been listening for eight years, it's funny in the sad way how as they become more woke they won't say "human being" or "retard" anymore but won't cut Henry's racist impressions or rape/child pedophilia jokes. as it gets more structured and ad-supported it becomes less listenable in a way that somehow has nothing to do with it being less transgressive, and when they start doing the topical filler shows it becomes harder to ignore their positions where Henry is a crazy Hollywood liberal, Marcus is a progressive Texan liberal, and Ben aspires to be America's first serious libertarian political figure when he got low single digits in a run for Brooklyn borough president and has a reputation for making GBS threads in bathtubs

Deified Data posted:I will miss two of the three lpotl guys cuz yeah, I'm not gonna juggle several different podcast platforms. RIP I've been listening to mysterious universe on and off for years now and they do general weird stories and conspiracy poo poo. A lot of the time it's pretty obvious their subject is just a crazy person or grifter selling a book but they tend to take them seriously which can get annoying. I've come to understand they probably don't believe a lot of it and they're just acting credible because a lot of these people and their friends (the paranormal community is weirdly incestuous) will end up doing interviews on their show. oh no ross and carrie is pretty awesome but more from a skeptic/debunking angle. they actually go join cults and poo poo then do hours and hours of podcasts about them. They did a bunch of eps on scientology, OTO (aleister crowley's cult), and one of those ayahuasca resorts in central america. ross actually did ayahuasca like four times for that project which was interesting At first I thought thinking sideways was neat because they talk about a bunch of niche mysteries and weird poo poo i hadn't heard of, but they kind of have the opposite problem of the mysterious universe guys. they really super think of themselves as smart and logical and will inevitably come to the conclusion that the mystery is a hoax or coincidence because of occam's razor or whatever, and they mostly take official accounts at face value. they do a lot of summarizing wikipedia articles too, which once you notice it gets tedious.

Still say a lot about neoliberal co-option of feminism makes sense considering it didn't actually try to stop any of the sexist stereotypes, just treat them as weapons to be used to their advantage. And resulted in a lot of 'male feminists' who really just developed a more particular type of madonna-whore complex.

Halloween Jack posted:I'm a little reticent to criticize naked woman activism because some of it is actually planned and executed by the naked women. But I've always thought this was just a segment of that liberal style of protest, where it's a stage production with a title, a slogan, and a costume [...] This is actually quite ingenious on liberal terms. Coming from the left, one should not go criticizing the style of the protest (which is self-defeating as leftists as you rightly point it out), but bypass straight to the substance: what has been structurally achieved here? It is an old talking point of hardcore ecosocialists w/r/t other groups to much of their dismay: the green cause has been pretty much sequestered by a bourgeois mentality of personalism and individual demonstration, which makes collective mobilization towards actual achievable goals impossible. I do not recall who said it, but some intellectual in France or Germany basically lambasted Greenpeace in the 90s for wanting more to be heroes than actually doing something for nature. His question was more or less like, "why not make the case for the coal workers in plants and mines to strike for clean energy?" hell, I have lots of words about liberal greens, why do you ask
