That guy in Anton Bressler who is 6'6" and 260lbs but this is not the only time Tendai Mtawarira did this, he also held Eben Etzebeth above his head who more like 270lbs and 6'8". There's a reason he's called The Beast. He's also pretty quick on his feet https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bKKF9d9j-Mg So Tendai is 116kg and Chrysander Botha here is more like 78kg, textbook tackle right there. Also Hakas are cool, Tonga and Samoa have really great Hakas as well.

GuardianOfAsgaard posted:If you don't think this is the coolest poo poo ever I don't know what to tell you: This one in particular is great. The team performing the haka, the Waikato Chiefs, went on to win. Their opposition was the national team of Wales. I can't think of a great analogy for this, but this is a small-ish provincial team beating a national side. Actually they demolished them. As a Kiwi, I think the haka is great, no matter the context. It's a key way of getting pakeha (European descended Kiwi's) to acknowledge and participate in Maori culture. Our nation has shameful history of marginalising and destroying Maori culture and this is a move in the other direction.

I don't know why but seeing the ladies doing the haka is pretty frightening. I guess you expect brutality and ruthlessness from heavily muscled sports-geared-up men, but seeing a woman with buggy eyes and serious frowning is a sign you done messed the gently caress up and you're going to hear about it. Much more intimidating coming from someone with wicked aim with a chancla. I like the phrase "competitive hopping," it's cute. A friend calls rugby "professional shoving."

Idk if it counts as badass enough for the thread but there's a video out there of a wedding haka that reduces me to tears every time and I'm not really a wedding crier even when it's someone I know getting married. Hakas are raw and powerful and emotional in a way we're taught to find embarrassing and shameful; and the correct response to that is to examine your kneejerk distate for seeing humans doing something so quintessentially and fundamentally human and get over yourself, not diminish the haka to soothe your discomfort.

Maybe worth noting that iirc the groom and bride are both Maori as I see a lot of people thinking it's the bride's family performing a haka at the groom: it's actually the groomsmen performing a haka at both of them, as a surprise/gift.
