Im heading to WoFest in May down in Melbourne, the line up for that is absolutely the whos-who of Australian S/D/S

also featuring international acts SOMALI YACHT CLUB and STONED JESUS.

I get to see Somali Yacht Club and Stoned Jesus play two nights in a row in Perth and I can tell ya, I'm super loving stoked for it.

also, thanks for the DoL chat; most of what i didn't love about the one album i've listened to is the production, so i just needed a little convincing is all.

All of those bands should be on spotify. They are on Apple Music, which, if they are on that, they are usually on everything else.

Please still directly support the artists by buying stuff on bandcamp (or merchandise) when you can though.

Oh yeah, baby. Frame your suffering as a masterpiece. Only one problem - no one's watching. It's boring, buddy, boring as death.
Vibing on Grave Image by Deathwhite recently. Might be a bit clean, but has some doomy/sludgy parts.

Yeah.. I'm not digging it. I mean I appreciate that Elder is trying to evolve their music with each new release, but I'm not really interested in the direction they've been heading.

Ditto.

I actually think Lore is really good, personally, but they're clearly aiming for a faster/more vibrant version of that Colour Haze-esque stoner-sound. It's almost like they want to reside purely Jam Band territory.

I'm torn. I honestly didn't mind The Gold & Silver Sessions because those Floydy stoner instrumentals were my jam. However, something about the vocals on this first released track and the unmemorable riffs are not hitting for me. I like the concept of "stoner metal jam band" on paper, but it needs to have some more bite.

maybe theyre more just psych jam rock but idk they get heavy

Filling the Void with Chaos
Dead Roots Stirring has to be my favorite Elder song/album. That drat riff towards the end is so incredible, one of the “perfect” stoner riffs in my mind.

Did not really like the new stuff, I just want more of them rocking out in a super dark, heavy way.

It's funny how many bands conclude that the best way to broaden their sound and mature as artists is to cover frame by frame

Yeah it was the Apollo Theater in Harlem, I think Opeth's been playing seated venues for a few years now (though obviously everyone stood for the heavy songs)

It was way better than I expected and they really jam out a lot of the songs. Good mix of tempos.

I did have 3 hash brownies before the show however.

Is Baroness worth seeing right now? They’re playing a show here with Against Me headlining. I listened to their first three albums for a while, don’t remember much about them, and apparently they didn’t grab me enough to keep listening. But I haven’t seen a good metal show in a long time.

They're barely a metal band at the moment but they were pretty good when I saw them like...three and a half years ago.

Uncle Acid was excellent as previously mentioned, CHILD, a Melbourne Stoner/70s rock band supported, and they very nearly stole the show.

Also John should really commit to the "painting awesome art" side gig fully, because from recent interviews I've seen, Gina (the other guitar player) seems like she wants to roll her eyes every time people ask John a question and he can't find it within himself to keep his loving answers succinct.
