I would like to correct that tweet and say that the govt is playing russian roulette with itself. I wonder what the constitutional precedent is if the govt benches are all quarantined/in hospital/dead? Can Labour pass a vote of no confidence assuming they have enough surviving MPs and run a coronavirus coup?

Re: Results - it depends on where you are. For my centre the inpatients are getting results in 24 hrs, others in 48 (I think) and for those hospitals shipping samples in it's 4-6 days. Which means testing has very little utility in guiding containment at this time unless they can ramp it up rapidly. At this stage the UK is starting to look like Wuhan mid-January and we are going to progress to Italy since the UK govt is incapable of magically summoning hospitals out of the ground. If everything is shut down now maybe we can mitigate some of that damage but lol if Westminster clowncar manages to make any meaningful decisions.

Someone should take the age of MPs and map it against the CFR data. Considering that Nadine Dorries has infected the entire Tory side at the minimum by this point.

One of the measures that some of the countries taking the crisis seriously have taken is banning the sale of those things to the public to prevent shortages, FWIW.

mostly telling people to wash their hands and not panic, and saying they might do some advice at some point (apparently when Dominic Cummings decides it will be best)

at least they backed off their plan to stop updating people on the number of infections

honestly at this point, I think people panicking is doing more to promote self isolation than the government

the asian countries that actually know what they're doing are all wearing masks and ppe whenever they're outside.
presumably since they're from countries that take it seriously they have this stuff already or are given it.

my own experience dealing with the gov advice and phonelines on this is that its basically every man for himself as the government actively tries to get as many people infected as possible before doing anything

i dunno if i gave the thread an update but me and my gf both have all the main symptoms and have been sick for a week and are going from cold symptoms to shortness of breath and dry coughs etc, hopefully not roni but it is here community spreading in our location.

i've called 111, i've gone online, i've called scotlands special non-111 coronavirus helpline. ofc we aren't getting any tests but they also aren't even advising us to stay indoors ffs

Technically yes, but it would be extremely dodgy and all they could do with it is call a General Election in which they'd have to put their own seats up for grabs as well. I would expect an increased Tory majority if they tried. It would be much better to instead put through only some emergency regulations (including extending the Brexit transition period) before closing the house for non-essential business until the crisis ends and by-elections could safely be held.
