Italian kissing and hugging culture probably helped spread this thing too?

I've been thinking about that argument a lot, as far as why Italy will be worse than the US (not that you're saying this, just seeing it around). I don't think it holds up.

Americans notoriously eat out all the time, love fast food, don't wash their hands, love crowded bars, and generally just don't give a gently caress or listen to science authorities. People are rushing to get onto cheap flights, the bars in every city are packed, and there's no way any government could shut down bars and restaurants in the US. There'd be riots and looting.

I feel like culturally we are just as pro-germ spreading as Italy or anywhere else.

That's a 7% death rate across the board

I imagine it's higher than the average in other countries because of the average age being higher but also because of the healthcare situation

It’s because Italy’s overall infection demographics are similar to SK’s from that graph, but only the very sick (mostly 40+) are getting detected there. So all of the deaths are reported in Italy, but only a quarter of the infected, making the death rate appear very high there just like all other countries with poor detection.

Even if by some insane miracle the US gets its poo poo together and presents a strong swift unified response to the virus and manages to keep the number of deaths to a minimum there's going to be tons of deaths in other countries like the UK that people can point to.

Of course the US isn't going to get its poo poo together so this is all a moot point anyway.

It still blows my mind how many frail and elderly regulars I've seen this weekend coming in to play the slots. Some wear gloves, some masks but there seems to be no general panic here whatsoever
When I ask my coworkers if they're 'concerned' at all, most say they are more worried about the economic impact of all of the businesses closing and say it's almost a guarantee that they will get the virus or already have it already but that there is no escaping it anyways
There was a lot of drunks out with St. Patty's gear on last night but easily felt like a regular weekend overnight at the casino

I actually managed to find some at a food store (Giant) in the Philly suburbs! I grabbed two boxes on the 3rd and another two on the 12th. The whole milk was gone that second time, but the rest was well stocked. I also bought an extra gallon of the ultra pasteurized milk because that has a may expiration date.

I know we don't NEEEEEEED milk for our diet, but I need it for my sanity. Because if we don't have it, my three year old will ask for it at least 6 times a day, and I just don't need that.

Few things are more dangerous than dumb smart people. These dipfucks going ~we have a model a bloo bloo bloo~ can't possibly, at this point, model this thing correctly. And their dipfuck ideas assume that herd immunity for this virus is a thing, whereas reinfections from coronaviruses are not uncommon. Meaning herd immunity is a bullshit idea in and of itself, nevermind the fact that a whole bunch of people would get turbo-hosed by this policy along the way even if herd immunity were real.
