no, listen to what was said more specifically: - 8300 tests already performed in CA - 1200 tests on a daily basis; two additional labs will come online in the next few days which will mean 5500 tests per day. - 74,000 hospital beds - surge capacity of 9000 beds - 11,000 ICU beds separate from hospital beds - 9000 ventilators - additional expansion of beds + quarantines via partnerships for quarantining of 700,000 within CA (likely hotels).

Anybody else starting to get really disappointed with how limp Newsom's COVID-19 response has been? No actual use of emergency powers, just "recommendations" that bars close and restaurants cut their occupancy in half. No real state level guidance on school closures. No gatherings of 250 or more people but there are so many exceptions that really the only thing banned is sporting events. It's really sad seeing loving Ohio take this more seriously than we are.

Bay Area ‘shelter in place’ expected: Only essential businesses open in 6 counties with 6.7 million people until April 7quote:Six Bay Area counties are expected to announce a “shelter in place” order for all residents on Monday, directing everyone to stay inside their homes and away from others as much as possible for the next three weeks as public health officials desperately try to curb the rapid spread of coronavirus across the region.

That’s what I’ve been saying but then people shot back with “well what do you expect he can only do so much”. When the Midwest is doing a better job.... CA is super hosed too because we have a much higher population from all over the world and we have major hubs (lax sfo) which are huge infection vectors. We dropped the ball big time. LA county only has 69 (nice) cases as of yesterday though so clearly we are winning. Spoiler alert! we are not winning

Working from home in Fresno, decided to head over to a more boutique grocery store and see if they had anything in stock. Never made it inside, though. Power was out the whole 2 mile drive there - no traffic lights, rain coming down pretty good. Finally got to the store only to see employees escorting people out due to the power outage. Slightly panic-inducing. Fortunately the power is still on at home. Would be a total gut punch if all the extra food in the fridge and freezer went bad.

I know it's much easier said than done but you should find a new job or work with coworkers to push management. That's just insanity at this point. I'm concerned about those who are going to be unwillingly unemployed or effectively unemployed by this. I've heard some people working at cafes and restaurants are already getting laid off. I haven't seen legislation from the feds or the state to cover these people. Alameda county is putting a hold on evictions but what if landlords ask for back rent or damages? Should people out of a job right now really be paying for rent and utilities?

But California has a several billion dollar surplus to spend to help avoid or mitigate it. I agree with Sydin, the response by the government is totally inadequate right now and it's putting a lot of people on uncertain footing about their safety and personal finances. Whether we fall into a major recession or not is in the hands of Newsom.

If you're in the Bay Area and subject to the quarantine Here's SF.gov's page explaining how it works and what you can/cannot do. tl;dr unless it's to shop for essential supplies (groceries, medical/health supplies) order take-out, go to work for a job deemed essential, or care for an in-need family member, stay in your place of residence. You are allowed to go outside briefly for the purposes of exercise or walking pets, but you cannot do it in groups and have to stay away from other people.

If someone in your household gets sick during this time, you might be able to use Paid Family Leave. https://www.edd.ca.gov/about_edd/coronavirus-2019.htm only states "certified by a medical professional" which maybe doesn't mean proved positive but proof enough? Also has info on how if you get your shifts cut you can apply for Unemployment Insurance or if your kid's at home you can apply for Unemployment Insurance if you can't work because kid's at home.

You're right, but also "you've already paid two years into a pension you need to work here for five years to vest in" is a hell of an anchor. I'm weighing my options at the moment. If I can find a job in a lower CoL area that pays an appreciable portion of my current salary I would make out ahead in the long run even forfeiting the pension. It's definitely a narrow fit though.

Public transit worker, the agency line so far is "you're a public servant so we're confused as to why you'd have a problem with risking your life for the public?" Maybe because I'm a desk worker who could serve the public just as well from my home PC which would keep me and my co-workers safer? Argh.

No, I'm one of the handful of non-rep workers because my job has a ~sensitive nature~. Wouldn't help me at any rate, all my union co-workers are stuck here with me too. Through the grapevine I hear they're snapping mad about it and trying to hash something out but the going is slow. Probably doesn't help all the CBA negotiations happened just last year and were historically acrimonious thanks to our agency and the city teaming up to try and strong arm the unions.

If i miss a paycheck I'm hosed. Can't imagine what people who need to work but are forbidden from working are feeling right now. Actually, I can, and Jesus Christ I'm sorry
