As a queer person partnered with a queer person and with at least one queer child, I am 150% completely a-ok with being any level of rude to people who visibly share the positions on social issues which are held by all of the people who want to torture my family and I until they think we're convincingly pretending to be straight. If I saw a dude with this exact arc of attitudes drowning, I probably wouldn't push him under the water. I wouldn't be inclined to lift him up, either, without some kind of exceptionally convincing and somehow binding guarantee that he was completely done actively or passively working against the idea that my kid growing up as herself instead of being crammed so tightly into a box of acceptability that she can't even conceive of finding a way out of it until she's 33, which is what happened to me growing up as a queer kid in Texas.

I work with and sit next to real evangelical Trumpy weirdo. He's the sort of person that seems hatched from a Home School egg except he's way too old. He comes off as oddly sheltered ang I am developing a strong dislike for him. He didn't know what the Rolling Stones logo on my t-shirt was. (What's with the tongue?). He didn't know who Prince was when I wore my Prince symbol t-shirt (was he a real Prince?) Yesterday he was talking about going to a gym and then getting in the Jacuzzi. I politely suggested "yeah, maybe don't do that. PLEASE don't do that". Somehow or another the conversation turned into conspiracy. I sarcastically said "OK, sure. This is all a giant conspiracy." and he said "I agree". I went outside for a smoke and when I came back in stupidly took the bait and asked him "what conspiracy?" The conversation went verbatim pretty much like this Bigger Boat: OK. What conspiracy exactly and who's in charge? Who's behind it and why?" Doug: Well, you know the government wants to control us. BB: OK. Who unleashed this virus to that end and why? Doug: Well, when it comes down to it, there's only two sides BB: Go on? Doug: Well God and the devil BB: So...did the devil release the virus to control us, or is Trump the devil in this scenario and what does this have to do with this pandemic? Doug: I'm just dealing in reality. BB: No you're not or you wouldn't go to the loving GYM of all places. I'm done. You're not making any sense.
