I selflessly rescued an abandoned cat during the COVID-19 Pandemic :3:

Working in a post office in the UK, my boss has had to self isolate and 4 of the 11 staff have pretty bad lung issues. Another is pregnant, and I myself am a high risk individual but gently caress it, I have to work or I won't make rent. I'm also the closest worker and a manager, so uhhh, I'm running the place. Today was hell. Apparently 'only carry out essential tasks' means 'everyone come to the loving post office, young old, sick, well, who cares, just loving mingle in that room while the post office staff wear gloves and disinfect every loving thing. Queue's out the door? be mad, its only the correct response.' It was just two of us holding down the fort, there's usually 3-4.

I served so many elderly today I had a moment where I had to go out back and try not to panic. Half those fuckers will be dead by the end of the year, but they won't listen.

She came to his office today to scream at him and cough on him.

Our casino is staying open for now, their biggest concession is shutting down 3/4 of the slot machines(open machine must have two closed machines on each side to create a 6ft distance) and blackjack tables can only have two players at a time
they still had a huge whiskey giveaway today for st patty's however

they closed all the bars in florida today (keeping them closed for a month) right at 5 PM before any of the St Patricks day parties so I expect liquor stores are gonna be jammed packed for a long while

it figures I find this out on the day I was going to go to Coppertail (best brewery in existence imo) for that new collaboration brew they made (the Wawa one they released earlier was fantastic). They said they are staying open tonight + tomorrow because they technically have their own restaurant there but I wonder when the city will step in since we are at nine known cases of coronovirus in Tampa and DeSantis is shutting poo poo down (try keeping tourists from grouping up more than ten people at the beach lol)

So I guess with social distancing and taking care of your basic needs, it's ALSO TIME TO WIN IT BIG! WOOOO!!!!

Yeah, I went shopping today and it was like a loving street party out front, everyone stood around chatting. Everyone's got this 'yeah, but I don't count, I'll nip out and do X' attitude. No-one's used to having any responsibility that isn't legally enforced. So people are going to die.

looks like there are several other smaller counties in EU doing essentially the same thing. locking down but with so many exceptions.

got to wonder if it is but just going to end up making things worse by starting the economic damage earlier and making everybody even more complacent.

We went out for a walk by the park and to drop clothes to the homeless charity shop (we called beforehand and dropped them in front of the shop) it seemed like business as usual in South London.

The charity told us they'll be closing for a month and I hope it's just the stores not the care/food centers.

The nightlife venues finally caved in and closed doors en-masse after yesterdays press conference but wasn't that like two weeks late? I swear the Bussey Building (a very popular rave warehouse) hosted a massive party on Saturday.

It was an absolute cock move to gamble with herd immunity thing and not simply enforcing the ban so that people didn't had to keep open their venues/pubs until the last moment to pay the bills/employees.

Insurance companies are safe because the moment WHO designated this as a pandemic they highfived each other due to Force Majeur clauses meaning they don't get to pay poo poo for lost business anyway.

I'm new to the UK and todays press conference sounded like absolute gobbledegook but at least some actual figures about the relief package was in there, no?

A very important category was missing from that press conference: Relief for people renting. They got mortgages in there but I'm basically screwed right now if I have to stop working. I really really hope they add to it, because I'd like to not feel like my options are work and get sick, or isolate and get homeless. Or work, get sick, and then also homeless.

For every single infectious disease. There's charts and graphs from scientists that show why this one is the big one and it just never happens. It's already petering out in China of all places.

And

I'm kinda in the same position. My visa is a startup visa so I've been expected some (20k+) turnover in less than one year and my renewal is up for end of the April.

So basically I need to keep working to keep my clients to fill the gap (I was already behind due to Brexit/Election) and I can only do freelance work.

So either I work (currently WFH but might need to show up for audits), get the roni during my 2.5 hour commute to Essex or get my extension rejected due to low turnover and have to return (lol good luck Turkey shut down all flights) and get into quarantine for 14 days in a student dorm where bunch of boomers spitting on quarantine police to make them get the roni. My sister just had a baby, my mom has both lung condition from past smoking and have type 2 diabetes which makes me anxious af.

I hope for either HMRC to give some tax suspension or the Home Office be slightly understanding about the situation.

I'm not eligible for any kind of public funding so not even that 95 pounds a week for me.

Gonna call the new Home Office immigration hotline to see if I am eligible for anything at all.

Hope you and others get that rent relief my man. There are like millions of people in London literally surviving on weekly paychecks with scummiest landlords.
