Stuart Gordon was a huge influence on my taste in movies. I got to see Stuart Gordon direct his stage adaptation of Edgar Allan Poe's Nevermore a few years back and it was one of the greatest live shows I've ever seen. RIP to one of the greats

Here’s a little taste of the Nevermore play. When I went to see it live, they warned us if we sat in the first row, there was a good chance Jeffrey Combs would get spittle on you because he really gets into the performance and stalks around the front of the stage. By 70s the Comics Code, which was specifically created to destroy the violent Horror/Crime comics that were dominant in the 50s, was kinda still a thing but they were loosening the restrictions by allowing vampires/werewolves/supernatural elements again. Marvel were basically testing the waters by making their first vampire not really a vampire but more of a vampire-ish super villain. Shortly after they went all in with full on horror comics like Tomb of Dracula which is some of the best stuff Marvel has ever done.
