One of our thread docs said as much, yeah. They don't have time to sit on a pile of bodies without finalizing certificates. If the results aren't back yet, they go with cardiac or respiratory arrest or whatever and roll.

None of the numbers right now matter because we're also not testing population that doesn't need to go to the hospital in places that are getting slammed. So if you have the roni but you don't go to the hospital, you don't get a test. That's one less "new case." And if you die without a test or before your result comes back, that's one less "covid death." So the numbers mean nothing.

And some places have rolled out protocols for EMTs to basically tell people "yeah you probably have the disease, but you don't need to go to the hospital right now unless you want to, just stay home thanks" so that's another thing.

Basically the numbers can't tell us anything meaningful except "it's real fuckin' bad" because maybe deaths are outpacing actual cases, maybe deaths are being under reported, but definitely the cases are being underreported, so you can't really tell anything except "there are reefer trucks full of bodies"
