I'm eating my lentil and beans in various dishes with my rice, I made a big batch of rice up and chucked it in the fridge, and a batch each of Mexican beans and lentil and sweet potato curry and they're my work lunches so it stops me spending ages on lunch and keeps me in a habit

I’ve used lentils to stretch out a bolognese I made for a lasagna. Also had milk powder (bought before pandemic) that I used for the bechamel. Revving up to work from home soon so will be making bean/lentil/veg soup for lunches. Haven’t really gone overboard except I’ve now got tinned and frozen fruit where I usually don’t, and more frozen veg than I usually do. Shitload of rice though, but we eat it.

Throw it in anyway, I spoke to one of my old housemates ad it looks like it was a storm-water tank or something not a septic. As long as it has loads of water and nutrients it'll bast off.

Most Coles and Woolies are out of eggs, noodles, good fruit, but asiamarts and greengrocers still have fresh veg, canned goods etc. Must be the alternative suppliers and logistics

Transplanted my perpetual spinach into a pot. Hope it survives. Finally emptied the dirt out of the container which used to contain my rosemary, so I can put that in the bin tonight. It's not real gardening but it will have to do until I can get my hands dirty again. Really want to start knitting some slippers and socks but knitting sets off the neuropathy in my fingers. It's annoying as gently caress not being able to do the things I actually want to do.

A lot of crops/land got affected by either the fire or the smoke so they've had to be a lot less picky with what makes it on to the shelves. e: of course the panic shopping probably doesn't help.

Jestery posted:I bought a 25 kg bag of rice and started growing chokos, that's about as far as my prepping goes. My garden is able to sustain some tasty herbs so atleast it will be tasty fried rice and whatever we can get our hands on The chayote fruit is mostly used cooked. When cooked, chayote is usually handled like summer squash; it is generally lightly cooked to retain the crispy consistency. Though rare and often regarded as especially unpalatable and tough in texture, raw chayote may be added to salads or salsas, most often marinated with lemon or lime juice. Whether raw or cooked, chayote is a good source of vitamin C. In Australia, where it is called choko, a persistent urban legend is that McDonald's apple pies were made of chayotes, not apples. This eventually led McDonald's to emphasise the fact that real apples are used in their pies. This legend was based on an earlier belief that tinned pears were often disguised chayotes. A possible explanation for the rumor is that there are a number of recipes in Australia that advise chayotes can be used in part replacement of canned apples to make the fruit go farther in making apple pies. This likely arose because of the economies of "mock" food substitutes during the Depression Era, shortages of canned fruit in the years following World War II, and the fact apples do not grow in many tropical and subtropical parts of Australia, making them scarce. Chayotes, on the other hand, grow extensively in Australia, with many suburban backyards featuring chayote vines growing along their fence lines and outhouses. Hey McSpergin, what's your Aeropress method? I make cold brew with mine (one scoop, upside down in fridge overnight, press it in the AM). When I do it hot I can never get it strong enough and feel like I'm loving up. I can just do Turkish if I want strong, but I've yet to experience decently strong Aeropress and want to give it a crack. Solid AusGBS Corona Spotify playlist, BTW.

I grind a heaped scoop on medium-fine, wet the beans and rest for a few minutes, then add the rest of the water and stir, and let it brew for a few more minutes.
