The idea that a seceded California would stop at the Coastal Range instead of the Sierra Nevada is the dumbest thing that only someone who's never been farther than 1/2 hour from the coast could believe.

Uh what are you basing this on, like the 2016 election map? Marginally supporting Clinton has nothing to do with ratifying the creation of a new country and probably starting a civil war. Anyway it's speculative fiction so I'm not going to get too worked about you being wrong about :(1) my joke idea, (2) saying "the Coastal Range" and (3) where I have lived and traveled.

Gavin will never win the electoral college but could probably clean up a actual popular vote general election. This countries politics are far to the right of its electorate.

CA Dems when they control every branch with super majorities and can pass whatever they want: "....oh dang you actually wanted health care? Oh looks like its just a thing some stores are doing in SD. Last night HMart said no bags but wanted to still charge for them. The Target I work at isn't charging. Hm.

If you fall for any of these centrist lichens praising Bernie then you're truly an imbecile. Vote Green Party in CA so they can get 5% of the vote. Biden or whoever they replace him with will still win and you might actually see some real results in the next Presidential election. Also CA seceding would be very interesting, I do not think it's impossible as claimed but it sets up a bunch of interesting issues; but if you look at the disintegration of empires historically what happens is that people get sick of the corruption and inefficiency and break off and seize what they need in their territory and the central government is too weak to do anything about it. I don't think we're quite there yet.

Yeah when I went to the grocery last week in San Diego they told me they wouldn't touch my reusable bag but I was free to bag everything myself. Fine with me, one less person touching all my poo poo.

The last time I went out to get groceries I got approached by an employee who told me I wasn't allowed to have my reusable bags in store and would have to go put them back in my car or leave. They then wanted to charge me 10 cents for paper bags lol. I get it, even if you tell clerks they can't touch the bags you still have people shoving a bunch of random bags into carts that are going to be used by others, and ten cents isn't exactly going to break the bank, but it still feels kinda slimy not to just temporarily suspend the bag fee.

I'm putting my reusable (cloth) bags through the laundry after every shopping trip, but I get it, a lot of people don't or won't, and it only takes one person with an infectious bag to infect the checker or bagger. OF course that person is also infecting their cart, but the stores can wipe down carts, they can't do much about the bag thing. It's still safer to let them give you a fresh plastic or paper bag right now, although obviously they shouldn't charge for them, but I think the charge is a law and they don't want to flagrantly disobey that law until someone in charge makes it officially OK to?

Berkeley Bowl didn't want to let me in with my insulated bags but I'm actually disabled* and flung that card down so loving fast. Now they let me leave my little cart with the bags in with customer service and I just take everything outside and shift it to my own cart. *I can't carry anything over a couple of pounds the way one carries grocery bags. I have to use my own little cart or carry the bag on my shoulder. Don't like playing that particular card but this is a serious issue.

I'm in Roseville too and I swear I saw something about Placer and a reusable bag thing, but clearly I didn't pay too close attention to it. I've been trying to do Walmart pickup instead when I can get a pickup time slot. They're still charging 10c a bag it seems. They also stopped requiring a signature on pickup.

Did trips around Oakland yesterday and encountered different approaches at each store. Most common answer was that the checker would ask you to load up the belt, they would scan it through, and then you can place it back into your cart to wheel out to your car and then self-bag at the car. All four stores I entered did not allow outside bags inside, but did not actively stop people from bringing them in. Safeway(s) did not charge for paper bags. The asian market was going to charge but I opted to put stuff back into the cart loose.

Looking at bag ban legislation and it says that the store must charge for bags so I'm guessing that the stores not charging customers are just eating the fee. I'm guessing the holdouts want some sort of signal from Sacramento that they can temporarily stop charging? It's technically in violation of the law if they don't and they can be fined. However the stores keep all those dimes anyways so gently caress em.

You're buying commercial TP for your worker's bungholes, right? They may be unable to buy retail TP right now no matter how hard they try; those supply chains are hosed on top of demand being way up due to so many more people being home. Maybe consider selling them loaves at wholesale prices to curtail the desperation?
