Isn't that about the same as last week?

Is it like the virus tests and the number is just the amount they're able to process that week.

The only thing keeping me where I am (in one of the big plague cities) is that I still have a job. It's going to be a real poo poo if I don't lose my job before they close up the city with me in it.

I long to grow potatos and chickens on a rural farm somewhere

Holy poo poo, how stupid am I for thinking that something would have to change from this? All that's going to happen is 100k+ people dead, millions more unemployed, and even more corporate control over every single aspect of the world. Ain't nothing getting better because of this. Our country is doomed because we choose death over progress.

Yeah, pretty much. Same thing in Europe. That said the vast majority of people have no immunity still and easing social distancing even a little bit is probably going to cause another explosion of cases, so we're sorta stuck in limbo now

Been there, even though I have health insurance I never go to the doctor because its around a 1-2 month wait, I get a few minutes with a doctor who says I'm fine without seeming to really check for anything, and then despite my insurance, I still owe them 300 dollars.

We have 30k+ new cases in the US and the number of cases are still growing- not just in number but rate of infection per the cases that are coming through per day (ie: this time last week we had less than 20k per day iirc). Almost 2000 died yesterday.

They're trying to not lose their grip on the economy.

It's going to be bad when they do.

Combination of a failure to adequately increase testing, social distancing policies being in effect for 2-3 weeks already, and the some wonky projection modeling

The reporting is super irresponsible in this case, though. The media loves grabbing onto "positive" stories and it's so loving dangerous in this case given that like a third of the country thinks that this is a hoax and very few people understand that social distancing needs to continue for months after the peak. And we're not even at the peak yet.

Goodness no, now that wouldn't do at all!
It's funny that Trump and the "economy" cadre think that once we start coming down in numbers, we can immediately open up again. The whole point of "flatten the curve" is to keep it flat, it'll just burgeon beyond the previous peak if you don't continue distancing measures.

yeah, China opened Wuhan back up when their new infection rate was down to 1 per week over several weeks

Pretty much, but also Sandy Hook we at least took a month before getting over it. A significant amount of people got over this from the beginning by saying it was just like the flu bro and just not acknowledging it anymore
