Pretty surprising they didn’t try to gently caress people.

Credit here goes to the Dems refusing to pass the first version of the bill and its various clauses that stealth-hosed people, even while the media blamed them for holding it up.

They're comedians who's primary concern is getting another season. They may slip in some personal political objective every once in a while but only so long as it doesn't threaten their livelihood.

They were always libs substituting impersonation and caricature for substance. They have always made their “targets” more likable by humanizing them through benign exaggeration, making them seem as familiar and harmless as a character on a sitcom. Consider how their most potent satire was having Gerald Ford fall down and be a well-meaning bumbler. I mean, think about the personal politics of Chevy Chase and Bill Murray, not to mention Lorne Michaels. It was a bait-and-switch from the start.

The only actual politics the show’s ever had was when Amy Pohler said people should vote for Hillary in 2008 because she’s a bad bitch who gets things done (lol).

But black peoples' opinions on this term can get somewhat complex. Example:

I've heard from other black people that they don't like the term "African-American" either.

"Black people" is probably the most neutral term, but I guess it can't hurt to ask people how they would like to be called.

I do think it’s worth pointing out that the reporter who wrote the story is black.

The prof who taught my modern American Indians anthro course definitely preferred the term Indian but noted it was a personal choice, iirc.

Turns out self identification is a complex topic, shocking.

The one that gets me is when conservative types trot out ‘homosexuals.’

Biden's IBR and PSLF plan is actually much better. If you don't get your debt forgiven because you went to a public school or HBCU, then this will be the easiest way to get forgiveness for private school loans.

The biggest beneficiaries are going to be people with new or relatively young loans. 5% of discretionary income above the first $25k you make is going to make it impossible for someone with low income, but high debt to drown in payments that are equal to their rent.

This will also fix the issue where some people get completely hosed by FAFSA if their parents don't cooperate or if their parents claimed them as dependents, but aren't supporting them financially.

...That's actually really nice. Not perfect by any means, but better than I thought Biden would support.

How does it interact with interest, though? I haven't seen any mention of it in the articles I've seen, and if it keeps accruing in the normal fashion I can see a whole bunch of people stuck paying 5% of discretionary for 20 years. Better than the current system, but still a significant income drain at exactly the point in people's lives where they have mounting expenses (from all the other stuff Biden isn't fixing).

The actual answer here is to just get rid of means testing and give the same benefits to everyone, and increase top tax brackets to compensate.

Not only does it remove perverse incentives, it's much cheaper to administer because there are no edge cases.

I'm no expert on it, but here's my take. In any modern society where the people were somewhat cared for, no, it'd be like a delay and then you just start paying your regular amount when things return to normalish. But since this is the US, Hell yes, you'll pay your standard payment with a 50% increase to make up for the time you missed, peon. Now start yanking those boot straps

No, payments and interest are automatically suspended through September, and you’ll still accrue credit towards forgiveness is you’re in an eligible program.

In this instance they weren’t total poo poo - they threw a bone to the plebs paying their ridiculous “lol you tried to turn yourself into a specialized of worker” tax.

You're at more than 110% of the average JD debt - and with a scholarship! The tuition must have been close to 2.5x the average (already high) law school tuition if the scholarship was a decent size.

That is egregious.

Florida Coastal School of Law. It was like a decade ago, so I don't really remember how much the scholarship was. I do think it amounted to about 25-33% of each semester's cost.
