Trump has added the brilliant spin to the strategy by setting it up so that if the governors fail he can blame them, but if they succeed he will take credit for it. New York loves pageantry for any kind of public service employee, police, fire, now health workers. I think it really became a default response after 9/11 and then after Sandy it became cemented. Part of it's definitely positive, but it's naive because it ends at providing real political support for people who need it, and at worst, actively celebrating fascism (in the case of cops). I think there's also an assumption that people wouldn't want jobs in something like healthcare if they couldn't lord it over others by requiring public rear end kissing. I'm not saying healthcare workers do, but I think New Yorkers have the assumption that everyone is an rear end in a top hat like themselves. Now fans dont age out, they just keep reading and watching the same young adult media into their thirties and forties so they dont even bother changing the names anymore. Its a real bonanza for the film industry.
