consumerism has been beaten into some people so hard that they know nothing other than the cycle of consume / work / die. always chasing fulfillment though shallow consumption that they can never find. it is sad but not really surprising that it is so easy to take advantage of them when their ability to consume is threatened.

Outside of idiot states like Florida or true lust for death chud companies, it will be interesting to see who actually reopens if the direction comes in the next week or two.

Most companies I work with are just continuously increasing the restrictions on both staff and customers. This is the best case “reopening” of offices plan that is being reviewed right now by my company:
-Phase One: Offices to open to senior leadership only in June at the very earliest to plan and prepare for others to return. Everyone else continues to be remote.

-Phase Two: Late summer. Office workers can return but no one can be in the office full-time. Each area of the company and team must develop a rotating schedule where only 25-50% of a team is in the office at any given time. Telework is still an option for anyone who takes it. Masks are mandatory and temperature checks will likely be required as well. masks will be provided if employees do not have reusable masks.

-Phase Three: Only when a vaccine is available. The rotation restriction is lifted for any vaccinated employees. Masks still likely mandatory and probably temperature checks. Likely to continue this approach through 2021.

I work for a large company with thousands of office employees across multiple locations. Some of my friends at other large tech/retail companies are talking about similar policies. Pundits, broke-brain economists, and trump-supporting idiots are the only people that actually think reopening can happen in the next few months without causing mass death and damaging our country far worse than staying closed does.

The simple reality is that lots of businesses will need to close or change the way they operate. The government should be helping make that happen instead of just giving large bailouts to too-big-to-fail businesses. The country and the world will not be the same again. No one with half a brain leading a major company believes that. I doubt even half the jobs will come back. The government should be accepting that as the reality and trying to actually help.

Some of its greed but I think more of it is fear. People just want to bury their heads in the sand and feel like things will get back to normal. No one wants to accept that things are hosed now and will continue to be hosed for years. On one hand, I can’t blame them. It is a lot to swallow and seems surreal. This is the new normal though and the sooner it is accepted, the sooner things will get better.

But people are dumb and want to believe stupid loving conspiracies so 200k+ will die, we will have multiple outbreaks, and Trump will win in November.

lol, this is so true for so many people. It's loving hilarious how droves and droves of people can't find anything to do in their own loving houses. Why do these people have huge houses? Maybe they should be the ones that have ratty-rear end apartments where they only have a bed to sleep, they don't use their house for anything else anyway.

Still think we’re going to get back into sky is falling territory again once earnings reports come out and the reality of corporate debt against lack of demand becomes apparent
