brugroffil posted:what if we just give them to people who need food Yeah apparently they are just letting anyone who can drive to this random field in Idaho have as many as they want for free. There's no one to transport and distribute them. The problem is our food supply chain is all hosed right now from a combination of commercial users being almost entirely shut down and everything being calibrated for the tiniest amount of slack possible in order to maximize shareholder profits.

I usually homebrew all grain beer recipes but i don't feel like going and buying grain to mill so ive been trying out some cider and wine kits since the homebrew place is doing free shipping. I have 2 conical 6 gallon fermenters and 3 5 gallon carboys and basically my house is now producing alcohol at all times.

This poo poo played out in the early years of the Great Depression, too. Everyone lost their jobs, so demand for grain (etc.) fell off a cliff and prices for farmers plummeted. That was combined with multiple bumper crops creating huge supply and big exports from other countries further glutting the international markets. You couldn't sell your grain for even the cost of planting and harvesting. So crops were left to rot in the field or in silos as many starved in the cities. Then the Dust Bowl came. Just waiting for that next stage to appear in 2022.
