uber's business model is really just the silicon valley business model writ large, which is, Break The Law. that's it. that's what disruption means. turns out you can make a ton of money fast if you can use technology to trick 80 year old judges into thinking you're not breaking the law when you are airbnb breaks hotel licensing and zoning laws juul breaks nicotine sales laws amazon breaks antitrust laws every new social media app breaks data privacy laws theranos breaks basically every law ever written about medical research and development they all break labor law, constantly, whether it comes to misclassifying employees or union busting every single high-value tech startup is just an exercise in breaking the law, and no wonder, if this is how they get paid for doing so.

Restaurants accounted for over half of food consumption pre covid, and even though they've all been open for takeout, the revenue for that made many close. That made demand for animals fall and instead of selling the animals cheaply, farmers destroyed them. Even though gas prices plummeted , it wasn't worth it for trucks to take food to grocery stores. Then add in packing plants having everyone get sick. So now the stores ran out of meat too We built our food system so that fewer people going to corner bakery at lunch near their office + sick mega facility workers meant the entire logistics chain falls apart and animals are destroyed rather than sent to local butchers that can do the meat professing. It's been worse with milk/cheese where farmers are dumping it rather than sending it to market. No sick issues there afaik. It's just that every company created in the last 40 years deals solely with imaginary things hidden behind electricity, so the concept of having to physically move something to a different place than usual means no one can respond or adapt whatsoever

Saw a lot of whole chickens for sale for a couple of dollars. I'm not talking about one bin of frozen ones. I'm talking about all the bins + shelves full of whole birds wrapped in cellophane. Also, gutting/cleaning a chicken and packaging it takes a whole lot less labor than cutting it up into it's constituent parts for individual packaging. This could be because there aren't enough workers. Also much larger amounts of ground beef for cheap. Like chickens, it could just be a way for them to try and get some money with a much smaller work force. My wife, who grew up after the fall of the Soviet Union, says that her family only got meat very rarely. And when they did it was always ground meat. So yeah, there could be supply issues. And someone, maybe in this thread (or the GBS corona one), said that their local McDonalds was actually out of beef patties.
