Dunno if Concrete Winds has been mentioned, but they were one of the last bands I saw live before gigs were cancelled and they kinda blew me away too.
Some war-ish dm, I guess, features 2 of the 4 guys that comprised the now defunct Vorum, if that name rings a bell.

Inasmuch as I consider it to be among my favorite albums of all time, it falls much more into the prog camp than the death metal camp IMO.

Defeated Sanity - Psalms of the Moribund
Disgorge - Consume the Forsaken
Devourment - Obscene Majesty

This is my Fieri Triple D beginning recommendations for consideration.

Swallowed - Lunarterial, probably one of the Irkallian Oracle albums and Domains - Sinister Ceremonies are all good ones that no one has mentioned.

Yeah Irkallian Oracle should go on for sure. They rule.

Some other good "newer" stuff that came to mind:

Excoriate - On Pestilent Winds
Venenum - Trance of Death
Vanhelgd - A lot of their stuff is good, their last album Deimos Sanktuarium was dope.
Grave Ritual - Euphoric Hymns from the Altar of Death
Pseudogod - Deathwomb Catechesis
Charon - Sulphur Seraph
Bastard Priest - Under the Hammer of Destruction
Weapon - Drakonian Paradigm or From the Devil's Tomb
Antediluvian / Adversarial - Initiated in Impiety as Mysteries
Cosmic Atrophy - Codex Incubo and The Void Engineers
Vampire - With Primeval Force
Kaamos - Kaamos

I haven't listened to this album in a hot minute, but it was one of my favorites from last year. I forget what song it is, but one of them just turns into death metal disco for a few seconds and I love it.

Editing to include some new albums that came out today:

Wharflurch, sounds like some Incantation worship to me: https://wharflurch.bandcamp.com/album/lurking-doom-ep

New Blind to Faith. Some v hateful sludge. Didn't realize they were going to release new material: https://blindtofaith.bandcamp.com/album/unstoppable-war

and some random 90s death metal from Disinter. Nothing new, just looks like putting everything up on bandcamp: https://disinter.bandcamp.com/album/desecrated

Sevared records finally got on board with the digital life too: https://sevared.bandcamp.com/music

Let's talk about where you're going.
Most of what I'd recommend for post-2000 dm has been mentioned, so I'll throw in Brodequin - Instruments of Torture and Festival of Death. Yes, they're stupid but they are the perfect distillation of stupid, low-tuned, ultra-fast guttural brutal death.

Some cool poo poo came out today I'm looking forward to listening to:

Sojourner, Summoning/Caladan Brood-core epic atmospheric bm
...And Oceans, meloblack
Forgotten Tomb, doomy dsbm
Winterfylleth, pagan atmoblack
Naglfar's new album out on non-bandcamp, meloblack
Drought, bm
With the End in Mind, atmoblack
Old Skull, black speed. Unfortunately not the punk band made up of 7 year olds that hate Reagan
Pastoria, raw bm

Wow, I must've listened to Light of Day at around the same age (not at release). Just a few days ago something reminded me of it and I listened to it again. I never exactly loved but it was still pretty good. I guess I'll check out their new stuff.
