Yeah, that advert is breathtaking. Pro click. I feel like there's a place in the world for a game that explicitly penalizes certain players, to let kids explore the space created by institutional unfairness. But I suspect this is not that game.

So we had "Millennial Monopoly", where you were all special snowflakes buying soy lattes, and now This Is What Feminism Looks Like To Republicans Monopoly? Seems pretty clear Hasbro are just going all-out for the clickbait "buy it to burn it" market now. Presumably they can't sell it any other way.

I assume this is some kind of ritual act to increase the torment of the enthralled wraiths of the game's original creators, perhaps to further Clan Giovanni's ambitions to take over the local grindcore scene.

This is 100% an attempt to cash in on #Feminism made by people who think there are "perfectly logical explanations" for the gender pay gap. (I'm being incredibly generous in assuming they don't straight up think it's a myth.)

Yeah this is.. uhh.. Wow. When my straight cismale white rear end can see the institutionalized misogyny in your game you aren't even trying to hide it. They literally released this which is it's own brand of "Making jokes but actually we wish this were true." https://www.ultraboardgames.com/monopoly/cheaters-edition.php

To the chuds that engineered Ms. Monopoly, the confusion and lack of sense is the purpose. Having a purpose can be critiqued for its choices and logic; by avoiding interesting critique, you can sell to both sides by having one chunk of the memes packed within reach into the psyche of someone's rushed gift-giving relative.

Kurieg posted:They literally released this which is it's own brand of "Making jokes but actually we wish this were true." Hm. The only real limitation on lying about your Cheat to claim the reward is the other players accusing you of Cheating, and the only limitations on someone accusing you of Cheating is a) the next player interrupting your explanation of how you Cheated by rolling the dice and b) the fact that unprovable accusations of Cheating are resolved by a vote of the other players. And most accusations of Cheating will be unprovable unless you've got CCTV cameras and a pit boss in your board gaming room. So in serious competitive play, the lead should never Cheat, because they will instantly get accused of Cheating spuriously and eat the penalty. For the same reason, the lead should never accuse someone of Cheating. The suggested Ultimate Cheater's Mode variant is also basically unplayable, because there's no rules for handling regular cheating. If you adapt the Cheating rules, you end up with there being no penalties for cheating, and they basically shug and say 'write your own drat game' there. So as a serious game it fails, and as a game for family fun it's primary virtue is that it dramatically shortens the game. With the game ending when all properties are purchased, it ensures that it will either end with a proper endgame state or someone flipping the board much faster than standard Monopoly.

What's dumb is that, according to Hasbro, Monopoly is one of their Featured brands that's making a profit next to MtG so it's presumably working?

The college sports team Monopoly were a popular gift at the game store, walking the line of 'I know one obvious thing about you' and 'I don't want to actually get you something neat with it on it.'

If you want true horror Monopoly, look no further than the two Star Trek boards released in 1998 and 2000: Star Trek Limited Edition Monopoly and Star Trek: The Next Generation Collector's Edition Monopoly. They were two of a planned (but never finished) four-game set that could all link together to form a giant mega-board. Just in case you wanted to take an entire week to complete a game.

In middle school when the TNG card game was relatively big, a couple friends and I fudged the rules to play a three-way territory protection game. We turned the dozen or so line of location cards into a triangle with something like twenty cards on each side. We played a single game of this abomination for an entire Saturday morning and afternoon, and it looked like it would take the evening and all of Sunday to complete. We gave up to, I think, watch one of my friends try and fail for an hour to get past the first couple missions of Wing Commander Armada. Great choices all around.

Hey PST a regional venture coordinator in Pathfinder Society covered up the harassment of a person I knew. That person later went on to harass and gaslight others. The secret about Totalcon is that person was in charge of PFS's presence meaning that there were two people that Paizo enabled there. Not everyone was happy with that situation because well I mean Bill Webb. As far as I am aware of the convention is partially aware of Erik Tenkar because of me but I kind of didn't want to discuss his antics with a known abuser. Why am I doing this now? gently caress if I know. MadScientistWorking fucked around with this message at 05:27 on May 14, 2020 |
