I have no sympathy for people who actively ignore basic science and common sense regarding the spread of disease just because it's inconvenient. They put others in danger because something as simple as wearing a mask and foregoing a haircut is too much of a burden for their fragile little snowflake beings. Basically, these people were no angels, and deserve the poo poo they eat. They have my thots and prayers, though.

Laughing at people who died from actions that put themselves and others in danger is acceptable, because other people doing the same thing see the public reaction and think "wow, I don't want people to laugh at me if I die from this" and go through some degree of self-reflection. Your social image and how people think of you is important on a primal level. I have no doubt a contributing factor to the continued schadenfreude is that the chuds know they will be dignified in death and mourned, even by a lot of people who called them out, because of decorum. Take away the promise of a dignified death/remembrance and some people might think twice about recklessly endangering themselves and others just to eat at applebees without a mask or whatever.

They also don't think about the pain and agony of going to that death. If they do, they minimize it in their heads to something bearable and acceptable. Take my QAnon mother and stepdad. They believe that God only allows someone to experience pain to a level that they can bear. They can't imagine pain or suffering so extreme that you would rather kill yourself than let it continue, and delude themselves into thinking that they can endure any kind of death with dignity. My main point though is that they find solace in the fact that they will be remembered and mourned respectfully after they die. Make it undeniable that this will not be the case, and maybe they will think twice and bend their deluded reality to accept preventative measures against the virus. This would save their lives and the lives of other vulnerable people they potentially infect from recklessly accepting themselves as a vector for a global pandemic.
