Yeah, I was scratching my head a bit there as well. The Stalker can easily be modified to carry 4 LRM-15s with sufficient ammo and decent armor protection.

OK, yeah lol- Using LRM 10s is bad, but even if you do that, the Stalker has far more available tonnage than any possible 65 tonner.

I'm using an AC/20 equipped Wolverine as a backstabber; is there a better 5/8/5 Mech with enough free tonnage to run big hoss until Lostech comes around with XL engines?

Something I learned today, Bulwark in a forest + Marauder bonus means you can take an AC/20 to the face and still live.

poo poo, now I got hit with the infinite load bug and every time it happens I re-validate my steam files and it replaces like 10-12 of them and then it just infinite loads again. Motherfucker. Just going to do a clean install and start over with fewer mods. It's only loving up saves during battles for whatever reason, so if it's a misbehaving mod it's only... panic system or mission control?

I've never been able to successfully load a mid-mission save. I just treat it as an anti-scumming measure, albeit a frustrating one.

I think I'm going to do without Mission Control after doing a clean re-install. Sometimes it produces a nice bit of variety, but a lot of the time it's sticking you in a bigger playable area just so you have to walk 3x as far around a goddamn mountain range

Anecdotal, I know, but I find that in-mission saves get wonky if you make the save and the enemy gets to act next after your current move. When I'd save and I'm in a phase where the next action is also by my teammate, that save will load successfully and my actions will get processed as normal.

Regardless, I think an AC20 medium backstabber is just the wrong idea in the medium game. It just doesn't do enough damage to have clean CT kills on the threats you care about. The stability is useless -- the job of a backstabber is to murder poo poo with core strikes, not get knockdowns. And you can't fit them on 55-ton mechs without being stripping a ton of armor. Whereas a SRM/MLAS/MG Griffin or Shadowhawk 2D pumps out fantastic damage while still having reasonable defense. You're gonna use called shot on nasties anyways, use it to your advantage. And with anything that's ammo-vulnerable you don't even need the called shot. You're gonna strip their entire rear armor and do a crazy number of crits with the MGs. I'm not normally a SRM/MLAS or a max armor guy, so for me to be saying "you should be using the boring weapons and have more armor" takes some doing. anakha posted:Anecdotal, I know, but I find that in-mission saves get wonky if you make the save and the enemy gets to act next after your current move. I haven't had that happen, but it's possible I've always saved at the right time. I don't normally do mid-mission save and loads. I *have* experienced the "loading a mission gives the AI infinite sight range" bug which was annoying as heck.

Random BT rambling: PanicSystem is such a nice mod. Having enemies run away or even eject if they are hopelessly hosed up just feels really good. Of course, none of my pilots have bailed yet so I might change my mind... I'm not very far into using Galaxy at War but I like having more missions in general and "priority missions" for factions. I haven't seen the map actually change yet but I've only done like 2 missions so far. I don't know if Mission Control was to blame for my bad save or what, but I removed it and don't miss it. I liked the idea of it, but it doesn't take a lot of instances of "spawn as far as possible from enemy on a map with expanded borders with a Z shaped mountain range in the way" to just want to bail on it. It also feels like it's sort of doubling down on things the game already added, like unexpected enemy reinforcement waves on some missions. I did start on a toilet world that sold nothing but autocannons... without any AC ammo for sale.

There are some real dumb but good mission types in Mission Control. I had to defend a base against 12 light mechs at once. If I didn't bring multi-target the Urbies in there would have won lol.Stravag posted:Check that your pilots CAN eject with panic systems. Some of them default it to off. Mine were punching out pretty regularly with minor hits when it first came out BEXCE has them eject with the same sort of damage/targeting you'd do to the AI. It feels pretty fair on both ends, but there are pilot quirks to be cowardly and eject early lol. Usually they don't unless half the mech is gone and it's almost cored for either your team or theirs and more guts equals more panic resistance.

It also feels like it's sort of doubling down on things the game already added, like unexpected enemy reinforcement waves on some missions. The thing I've always wanted from mission control is just to make the most generic mission types more interesting, and to keep more variety of vehicles and light mechs showing up later in the game when when you stop seeing them normally. The out-of-the-box defaults are a just too random for my taste, with stuff like 25% armor heavies showing up on low-skull missions. And it has an unhealthy love for SRM/LRM carriers. A bit of map expansions is cool if more units are gonna be running around, but there are some specific maps that get extra-huge multipliers (.75 when everything else defaults to .3). If I had to guess those would be the ones where you spawn on the backside of the huge Z mountain. And I bet what they found was that the normal expansion could make spots where you'd be cut off from the rest of the map. It's now at the top of my list to look at, after your report that it was spawning SLDF Incoming lances. The good news is, it's a super-configurable mod and you get a lot of power for customization in a small number of files.

I played through the campaign right after the game came out and had a blast. The disappointing release of MechWarrior 5 made me want to come back, but I'm not sure I want to play the vanilla campaign again. Does the DLC add enough content to justify its cost? I know I just missed the big Paradox sale, but I've been a BattleTech nerd since the early 90's and I don't mind paying HBS if what they put out is worth it (game DLC often isn't).

The DLC turns career mode from a lame score mode with only random missions into The Real loving Game. Flashpoint DLC adds the most in terms of new missions in career mode. Heavy Metal adds another mini campaign and tons of new equipment. Urban Warfare is OK.

Looks like that was the "Double Trouble" mission and you fought the "Bar Guard". Are you sure it was 1.5 skulls? That's a difficulty 5 mission, they do vary by +/- 2 so it's possible you got it at 1.5 skulls. Hmmm... I'm totally ok with that result! The duo duels use the standard lance generator which means my SLDF stuff shouldn't show up any more frequently than normal. The solo duels pick from a different type which won't have SLDF mechs. As far as I can tell you got crazy lucky -- to have the mission show up at -2 difficulty, and to have a SLDF lance picked. Those duel missions are pretty much a bonus mech loot opportunity in the first place, so the narrow chance you get a SLDF mech seems ok. (Also the high difficulty duels pick from lances that might have a SLDF assault + a SLDF heavy, at which point it's gonna be a fun fight. ) But I definitely want to make it so the extra throw-in stuff that Mission Control puts into regular missions can't pick the SLDF lances, because I don't want SLDF mechs showing up with as randoms with 25% armor. So not something I can easily fix. I could solve the issue by making the crab and phoenix hawk into new copies of the mechs, rather than edits of the originals. This has some downsides, but I do want the mechs to be salvageable. If you can buy them straight up in the blackmarket it's not OP to loot them (especially when you have to do it the hard way). Since I'm gonna update the mod to work better with Mission Control I'll also do that as well.
