Play by cloud multiplayer has been completely broken for me for a few days now, none of my active games are showing up in the game list. Unsure if it's a problem with the new patch, the servers getting hammered due to the epic games player influx, or something else. Super annoying as some of those games I've been playing for months.

The in game PBC had always been a buggy mess in my experience. If you want to play hotseat I'd suggest using the third party client Play Your drat Turn. As it actually works.

Yea - i'm glad they're doing stuff like the Apocalypse to add to normal games. That's a much better idea than Scenarios.

Jesus Christ Simon Bolivar is busted. Just walked through a deity domination game, his ability to keep conquering meant cities never had a chance to rebel no matter how bad the loyalty was. By the time they would flip, I would have picked up the next two nearby cities and kept going merrily along. The +1 movement, unique general and ability to promote and move/attack makes every single unit you get feel like a UU.

It's baffling that someone, a professional who was paid money and understands the game, thought this would be a well balanced and reasonable addition.

I really have to question that part of your statement. Half the time I'm not even sure the developers even play the game, see how long it took to add a production queue. Or the annoyance that is the AI pestering you with pointless statements or worthless trade deals in full screen.

smarter from a business standpoint to release dlc content as better than base content so more people will want it then nerf it a few weeks/months later to something more reasonable

They just don't seem to bother with religion now. If it happens to them by accident then they'll go with it but they convert things so rarely and so slowly. This even goes for hyper religious civs. It's really nice to not have them carpeting your land in apostles but at the same time it feels almost like it's broken.
I've really never been able to compete with the AI on any level in Emperor but now it's weirdly easy. They're vaguely ahead in tech at the start but that's about it.

Yeah, maybe you are right. Ive been playing on emperor too and usually I have a lot of trouble keeping up. But in this current game (Brazil) Ive very ahead on tech very easily and building all wonders (Im a little behind on culture, though)

Kinda feels like one or two difficult levels bellow

Yeah I turned religious victory off too maybe that’s a factor. Doesn’t explain the utter lack of walls though Australia declared war on me so I rolled him over. This triggered an emergency only America joined so I rolled him too. Chalked it up to the +1 move but it was a cakewalk on immortal I didn’t even need a battering ram.

I've not turned it off, so in theory they should be going for it!

I'm Mansa Musa and completely rolled over the Zulu when they declared on me and I started with no army. It took 30 turns on Standard for me to go from "oh no a sudden war dec" to taking three of their cities.
Spent most of the game at war with Korea and Greece too who genuinely didn't do anything after their first 5/6 units.

Definitely feels like something is broken. In the first game I did since New Frontiers I thought we'd hosed up and left it on Prince, but nope.

The only war I got in was a defensive one where Khmer attacked Kongo, and I just sent a party to harass their troops and pillage their land, but they definitely had walls on King difficulty.

I also didn't get particularly hassled with religious units. Khmer sent some missionaries into my lands, and I had a Debater apostle lying around that I sent to smite them. This converted one of his cities, and he sent me a message to tell him to stop converting his cities. I told him to gently caress right off, which generated a stupid amount of grievances, so I did what any rational civ player would do, and converted all of his cities and smote all his religious units.

Later some of Dido's missionaries were skulking about, but they didn't try to convert anything, so I guess she was just scouting. A couple wouldn't leave, so I smote them to stop their movement slowing down my turns, but that was the end of it. I did notice that a lot of my neighbors which hadn't founded a religion remained non-religious for most of the game.

E: This was with religious victory enabled, and Saladin was making an effort to convert his neighbors, but Bolivar was the only one who succeeded in converting a neighboring country.

Yeah they definately build walls on my games, is some mod affecting the behavior? My mods are only fan made civs and cosmetic stuff like Real great people.

Now it seems that AI finally uses more air attacks, my tiles were pillaged by Mongolian bombers, and I also saw triplanes strafing units on another war between AI empires.

It isn't everyone lacking walls, just...a distinct lack of them later in the game.

I think he made a beautiful post and did a great job and he is good.
I started a Maya game in Apocalypse mode on Emperor -- my first. Had an early, largely competent push against me by Korea in the early going, but I rolled her back with the help of that early ranged UU and grabbed three of her cities. Regrettably, the most productive one is on hex out of the golden range from my capital and I didn't have the heart to raze and rebuild.

Arabia's been coming at me with Apostles, so I haven't seen any changes to religion I don't think.

I am not a huge or... really good district planner at all, so Maya has been really interesting. The spot around my capital has a ton of oranges, and those have been my only source of plantations, but I've been able double dip the observatories on the pairs of those that are close. So not crazy adjacency, but all of them are at least +5 between oranges and farms.

Who is it? 150 science at turn 60 is pretty impressive, sounds like Korea, Sumeria, possibly Australia (though I've never seen an AI civ settle them well for adjacency), or Scotland. Scotland in particular seems to get some insane early science in my experience - but I'm also bad at this game so take it with a grain of salt.

Not directly I don't think. But there is a soothsayer promotion that adds combat strength to nearby units.

When you hover over a target unit a breakdown of the combat strengths and modifiers will appear on the bottom right. It would say something like +4 for difficulty on deity, and +5 due to soothsayer etc.

I've never seen that soothsayer promotion, that's cool.. The only ones I've ever gotten give more charges or stealth.

Soothsayers are pretty underwhelming unless your enemy is built up around volcanoes, I think. I've had storms backfire on me many times and the fact that the AI can just kill unprotected soothsayers without declaring war makes them hard to use in a sneaky way. Even if you send a military escort, those units can then be damaged.

When the appease the gods challenge comes up now, I often ignore it unless I have way too many units or something.

Came back to the game after a long time, and am trying to get better with upping my planning game. I spent about 20 minutes pinning out my districts in my most recent game while I was settling. The one thing I find placement hard to judge is dams. I had one floodplain tile that I was unable to put a dam on. Are there some other placement rules I am unaware of?

Still working my way up in difficulty while I learn the game better. I am crushing this game on king though, so that is nice. Turns out having a good number of +8 or better base yield hansas helps. The game is largely over, as I am too far ahead. Just a lot of hitting end turn until I can science victory.

Planning districts from the start is nice, up until the point where discovering Niter/Coal/etc. puts a resource right smack dab in the middle of your carefully placed district puzzle and ruining everything :v:

As for the dam, the major placement rules are that 1) There can only be one dam on any single river, no matter how long it is or who owns the tiles, and 2) the river must cover at least 2 edges of the dam tile. So putting them on the apex of a bend is generally a no-go.
