I posted in the roguelike thread that in thirty years of playing FPSes the whole scheme for the left hand has never felt really comfortable or accurate in terms of movement (or, hell, even accurately hitting Z/X/C/V in the heat of the moment, I won't lie) in the way controller does. But right joystick aim sucks rear end compared to even my weird ergo vertical mouse. So I thought something like the linked doodad maybe :shepspends:

I had a Belkin Nostromo Speedpad back when this basic design was first made, and I just never found it worth it. You have to either move your keyboard or mouse to a weird spot, or have a second entire setup, or have a really unnatural wide/narrow posture.

Wait, where did the hit game "I can't breathe" go? It was like 2 games down from "Three Lesbians in a Barrow".

Serious question though, are any of these multiplayer games? Is there anywhere that has information like this rather than clicking through every single one?

Does Catalyst do the same thing?
The first game is better about it in my book because you can outrun most encounters but for that you need to know where to go. Of the unavoidable fights one is a boss that's primarily about the disarm QTE, and by taking a gun from one beat cop and shooting a few SWAT guys you can at least get the other encounters over with easily.

The second game integrates melee combat into the running better, but you can't use guns anymore, and later enemies have gimmicks that require specific attacks to beat. The game also has way more mandatory combat, especially in the story where you're regularly locked into arenas until you beat a boss or the defined amount of mooks. The combat absolutely dragged down the 2nd game even more for me.

It's completely possible to beat the game with a no guns run without much difficulty. Mirror's Edge like Dishonored is one of those games where it feels so much more rewarding doing a no-kill style run.

I object to "without much difficulty" because you need a certain mastery of the game to know where to go and how to approach the areas with enemies (eg. which guy to disarm in order to continue without being killed while slowly climbing a pipe) in the first place. Someone playing the game for the first time won't have that, so it's absolutely understandable if they nope out at this point.

From the PoV of player freedom, the option to pick up a gun and shoot the annoying anti-runner commandos is alright, although it's not implemented well and thematically it feels out of place. The sad part is that Catalyst isn't any better, they give you different tools but still insist you fight 20 guys with body armor and heavy guns occasionally.

Hello steam thread, been playing through my back catalogue during the pandemic. Finally beat GTA 5 story mode to the end credits and was looking for advice on how much fun there is to be had if I keep playing and go after all the property and missions, etc. I had a blast playing through the game and always wanted to beat the story but I feel like I’ve “done” everything the game has to offer at this point. Online sounds interesting but also too tempting to shove micro transaction money into building your empire so I think I’m going to avoid that. I think I’m ready to move on to another game but I didn’t want miss out on something amazing to do in single player, so any advice is appreciated.

I also went through my steam library and put together the following list of “good games I really should’ve played by now”, and would like hear suggestions on what to play next. Some of this list is pretty shameful...

Batman Arkham Asylum GOTY
Bioshock remastered (story is already spoiled for me)
Bulletstorm
Dead Space
Prey (newest one)
RE2 remake
SW Jedi Fallen Order
Titanfall 2
Tomb Raider 2013

Think I took a wrong turn...
Been messing around with Kards: WW2 CCG on Steam. And it's pretty neat combination between a boardgame and a CCG. It's different from the standard CCGs in that operating units in combat costs resources/mana and you try to push to control the frontline to make your artillery/bombers better.

And also the art is really nice:

They're having a D-Day event with free community rewards, so it's a good time to try it out. I'm currently messing around with a USA 'midrange' list just from the beginner decks and it's a blast.

Of the ones I've played, I'd recommend most highly:

Batman Arkham Asylum GOTY
Tomb Raider 2013
Prey (newest one)

In that order. They're all great, but Asylum is the oldest so probably the most "archaic". The Tomb Raider reboot is superb and probably the prettiest of the games, but Prey is a masterpiece and the most fun to play. That might make you decide to reverse the order!

Interstellaria - Spaceship command sim. It does lands on alien planet
Democratic Socialism Simulator - with animals
Night in the Storm - Look charming and good reviews
9 Till Void - roguelike deckbuilding
Mutiny Island - open-world pirate
Myth Bearer - Zelda rpg where your choice matters?
Plunge - card game
Knights of the Card Table - card game
Quench - Godgame to save animals that can talk
Codemancer - Programming puzzle
Feud - Reigns in 4x4 grid boardgame?
Wakamarina Valley, New Zealand - Walking game in a super-realistic(?) forest. Include VR version
The Testimony of Trixie Glimmer Smith - Cartoon VN with hidden sanity system?
Verdant Skies - Western Harvest Moon? I recall this is quite new and selling at full price.
Mon-cuties for All - Pet-raising. 0.5v but playable from start to finish.
Village Monsters - Stardew Valley with many other focuses?
Fortune-499 - This is also free in Humble Trove. It's greatly designed card game.
Gataela - Victorian Steampunk RPG with Talking mechanic battle
A Mortician's Tale - Mortician sim
StarFighter R&D HD Edition: Scrolling shoot'em up with ship upgrade and base building
Babysitter Bloodbath - Puppet Combo's horror. Look up Puppet Combo if you like retro horror.
Night in the Woods
STARDROP - 3D Spaceship walking with puzzle
Thou Shalt Be Brave - Oldschool mini-rpg
Haque - Goons at rougelike thread loves this
Mid-boss - Goons at rougelike thread loves(?) this
Social Interaction Trainer - Review said it's funny
Catlateral Damage - 3d Cat Sim to push stuffs in a room

Airships: Conquer the Skies - Very in-depth airship rpg like FTL

The batmobile is a weird mix of floaty but also you can usually smash through walls and pillars, so the floatiness is lessened. The battank fights aren't as interesting as the rest of the game, but if you skip the optional tank fights it's not a lot to get through.

The two batmobile boss fights are pretty meh though.

I loved both City and Knight and though there were some annoying batmobile segments in knight, the batmobile itself is actually fun to drive and adds a lot to how fun it is to travel around the city. Both city and knight have a ton of riddler challenges and collectibles which can get really old after a while if you get tired of that kind of thing. My suggestion is if you are getting annoyed doing them, just skip them and watch what happens on youtube. I do recommend the side quests though as some of them are fantastic, particularly in Knight. I never played origins so I can't really comment on that one, only to say it's a little divisive and was made by a different team than the other three.

Also in general for City and Knight remember a lot of trophies rely on skills and gadgets that you acquire along the way, so it's not really worth it trying to hunt them down early in the game (although both games allow you to mark them on your map for later).

SolidSnakesBandana posted:

Having just replayed city I can agree with that. It's strange to complain about 'extra' gameplay, but some of the challenges and riddler trophies are just irritating and frustrating. As much as I love Knight (and actually prefer it to City in a lot of ways), it probably has a higher percentage of annoying trophies and challenges.

SolidSnakesBandana

Granted I never finished Knight but I can't see how anything could be more obnoxious than City's riddler "challenges". Some of them are just like "Oh its in a cage! Here's a button that opens the cage, next to the cage." Here's one inside a single room blocked by a crumbling wall! Good thing I have this wall explosive here.

They are pretty much the same thing, though it seemed like there was more of them and they were generally harder (I'm not sure if this is true or just my perception at the time, I'd have to replay it). Also, Knight had a lot of 'get a 30 point combo to pass this challenge against 10 of these irritating bad guys' challenges that I don't think City had and I hated those. I 100%ed both games, but I remember having more trouble with Knight.
