I was given a probation yesterday (voluntarily, but I don't think that matters) for six hours and the app helpfully had a banner at the top telling me when it would expire and initially it was correct in calculating the six-hour mark but whenever I went into the app after that it would show a time 24 hours later. The probation ended at the right time but the banner was way off. I didn't try logging in through my browser though so I'm not sure if it's an app thing or just an SA thing.

I changed the code on the forums-side to show your own local time instead of always showing CST. Is the app trying to itself convert it into another time zone? Can you check to see if you have the correct time zone and daylight savings time settings in the edit options page in the browser? https://forums.somethingawful.com/member.php?action=editoptions

The forums in the browser show the correct times, yeah. And my timezone/DST settings are right. That hasn't been an issue. The weird part about the error is that intially it was correct in terms of the remaining time left and the time on the clock that it would be done. It was only upon checking the app later did it start showing incorrect times.

+24 hours means it failed to parse so it's just going "eh whatever, maybe you can post in a day?"

I believe it will also now show 12-hour time if you have that configured - you might have to parse an "AM" or "PM".

Could you add something like this?Sereri posted:unix-timestamp data-attribute would be perfect then we can just grab that and it doesn't matter what the message looks like or if you ever tweak it in the future

Sereri posted:Can you give us the new date format string? Exposing the unix timestamp is a good idea but would be central time. Would you do the time zone conversion yourself based on like, the time zone the phone is configured to? EDIT: okay I clearly missed that post from last time where you addressed this, can read now

honestly I'd be tempted to just say "you can't post for 3 hrs 21 minutes" or something. Maybe even have a countdown by having the view post a message to itself every second to update, for a laugh but yeah just let the date stuff use the locale and figure out the date string if you wanted to do that. many heroes sacrificed their sanity to create those date time libraries

I got a new phone and the app is showing threads and forum sections on the same screen. My old phone only showed threads, only after choosing a forums section. Is there a setting to change this? I looked through the settings but could find anything. It's probably something obvious I missed.

Well, it finally happened. Work blocked access to forums.somethingawful.com (the Cisco Umbrella page says Reason: Weapons). I thought it was the app, until I had the bright idea to try accessing the forums via Firefox. I guess I won't be using it as much, but I still wanna say thanks for everything!

Has anyone a partial or full list of the alternative domains? Do they work with the forums?

I feel dumb, I'm sure it's an easy answer but I just don't know - I switched to a new phone and the app is doing this. How do I get rid of the forum listing on the left side?

Thanks! That fixed it. For anyone else with the problem, in the app go to Settings, then Device & Navigation:

Forgive me if this is the wrong place to ask, but on my wife's phone and account, when she goes to a thread she has read before, it always goes to the most recent page rather than the last post or last full page. I dont have the same issue and can't find a setting to change.

I dont have the same issue and can't find a setting to change. You mean, if she's read up to page 10 and there's 15 pages now, tapping the thread will open page 15? It should always just take you to the next unread post, if there is one - so it should open the page that post is on, and if there are read posts on the page (and the hide option is enabled) they'll get hidden with the "tap to show" message If there's no new posts, nothing unread, it should just take you to the last read post with nothing hidden - so the end of the last page, basically Sometimes certain threads are haunted though so check if you can actually view the same thread maybe? You might get the same behaviour

if sa goes down, i get that means the end of the app basically. then the chances of enough refugees being on the same offsite to justify an app get slim. what im saying is, if this poo poo gets real, thanks for the app, savvy goons. you guys rock.

The Bloop posted:not if the new server is shockingly similar to the current one (somehow) *wink* Lowtax owns the LLC than runs the forums and there’s no board of directors that can force him out. The likely end states are he does nothing and the decline accelerates, he just pulls the plug, or he turns over the LLC to someone else. I find the latter two unlikely since the LLC is his entire income (lol patreon) and even if someone can pay his asking price and buys him out 100% the app won’t need to change because nothing on the site end will change. If there are plans to attempt to recreate SA in whole on independent infrastructure it would be foolish in the extreme to miss the opportunity to upgrade to newer and better software. I am unconvinced that Lowtax would let an offsite effort walk away with the existing corpus of posts and forums for free which would be the only reason to even think about continuing with the busted rear end hacked vBulletin the forum currently runs on.

Seems like BNR is gonna be the most populous offshoot if nothing big changes here. It's been a while since I worked on the app, but a fork that works with that should be feasible without a total rewrite (still a ton of rewriting, to be clear). Depending on how things unfold I will probably work on something like that
