Ah then you probably have a different kind of colourblindness because I can read the bottom row clearly but the top one is invisible I would guess you're blue/green blind. You can open either image in an editor that has a filter to adjust the hue of the whole image and try it for yourself if you want.

Did this one which used all of the plates. https://www.color-blindness.com/ishihara-38-plates-cvd-test/#prettyPhoto yeah, so the idea is that yr blobs make up contrasting areas, one's basically in the shape of a number, and the more contrast there is between the two the easier it is to see the shape that's in there the 12 (that everyone's meant to see) is the most obvious, it really stands out well - it's a bright colour on a dark grey background, the blobs in each area are all identical, so you have colour vs no colour, and light vs dark the 26 is along the same lines, but it's harder to see because both areas have light and dark blobs, so you're really relying on just colour to tell them apart. Our eyes in general aren't great at seeing colour variation, it's really light and dark that we work with (that's why it's hard to see colour in low light, your eyes don't adjust like they do with dark vs not-as-dark) the rest are all like the 26, but using different combos of colours, meaning some people won't be able to see any pattern in them. Some have more of a brightness contrast, others basically none, so you can kinda tell if someone has issues with colours, if that extra tonal difference helps or nope, nothing there. They're all gonna be kinda hard to see though, for everyone. Bit of a magic eye thing, it's whether you're able to eventually see it or not (which might only take a moment, but it's not clear)

Assuming it's Azza Bamboo we're talking about here, it sucks they left but they really had thin skin. Rode it out for a week or whatever. It hardly seems a shocker that people were distraught when Starmer won because it meant for dyed-in-the-wool socialists the end of hope in the Labour Party which took a little time to get adjusted to. Coming on the day the result came out, declaring "well I voted for Keir" & being shocked when people have a go at you for it seems to have been a failing in reading the room. And if she (I think?) came back I'd not suddenly stop criticising Starmer & the people who voted for Starmer.

An interesting facet of colourblindness that I have yet to be able to get anyone to understand is that it essentially gives you blurry vision on the chromatic spectrum. So, whereas an inability to focus your eyes makes the edges of objects indistinct but leaves colours alone, colourblindness makes the colours of objects indistinct in a similar way, but edges are fine. So if you imagine how hard it is to pin down the shape of a thing when you can't focus, that's how colour is with colourblindness, because you do not have enough receptors in your eyes to make out the colour precisely. Another comparison is trying to judge distances with one eye covered.

I get why people struggle with it but it's such an easy concept to grasp once you've experienced it, it's funny how hard it is for people Especially as everyone's experienced blurry vision and I'm pretty sure everyone's done the thing where you cover one eye and try to judge distance.

Strom Cuzewon posted:LIke, I can kind of get the idea of colours being less distinct, and a general flattening of different colours. Is it that? Sort of, but it's not like it turns everything into one shade, it makes all nearby shades blur into each other. Like people ask "does that look red or green to you" like, no, red and green look like each other, all the colours around there just blur together into an indistinct morass of shades. Like blurry vision doesn't just transpose everything five feet to the right, it makes it hard to pick out distinct shapes or edges. Same with colour.

^^^ show people that colour wheel I posted (the second one!) or run a page through a simulator or something. For me that protonopia one loses a ton of information because stuff that all looks distinct suddenly becomes shades of yellow and blue, it's basically two-tone instead of colourOwlFancier posted:An interesting facet of colourblindness that I have yet to be able to get anyone to understand is that it essentially gives you blurry vision on the chromatic spectrum. Oh hey I might be able to demonstrate that, when I'm back at the computer though It goes back to what I was saying about our vision being more reliant on light and dark contrast than hue - and edges are generally where a brighter area meets a darker area. (If you "sharpen" an image that's what it's doing, boosting the light and dark contrast in those areas) Two areas with identical brightness but different colours are gonna be harder to see where the dividing line is, because human eyes (which are pretty crap, Intelligent Design working hard thank you) don't really work that way baka kaba fucked around with this message at 21:04 on Jun 30, 2020 |

He did much better when the press was stuck going "comrade corbyn says that stuff being really expensive is bad actually, what a lunatic amirite?" and everyone went "uh, yeah it is?" Inflammatory statements designed to appeal to the prejudices of ordinary people is literally the pitch the right keeps doing except for some reason they only ever do it with racism. The longer he was in the office the more... politician like he became, the 2019 campaign was far more reactive to the tories and I think far less good at repeating that same inertia, though the press certainly had cottoned on a bit too. You give yourself a lot more to work with if you respond to 'you are a communist!' with, 'yes, I am, and here's why' rather than 'um, no, well, actually I am a democratic socialist, which is nothing like big bad evil communism, and furthermore...'. The latter puts you on the defensive and makes you seem weak, while implicitly reinforcing the idea that capitalism with some tweaks is basically fine, just owning it immediately puts your opponents on the back foot. It's kind of an adaptation of the 'attack your opponent on their strengths' strategy the media so reliably used against Corbyn - you're turning your opponent's attacks into sources of strength (ironically, something that Donald loving Trump understood)

You got that anyway, and also he's a hitler. Plus you can attack the absurdity of the comparison, and most importantly you should link it back to that prejudices, like you don't like paying rent, why does you not liking paying rent mean you want to kill millions of people? If just wanting all the foreigners to go away doesn't make you a racist then I'm sure wanting the landlords to go away doesn't make you a stalinist. And of course if people do decide to identify as stalinists because they were told not liking their landlord made them one, who am I to stop them?

So to get creative you'd use things that you knew were distinct and a paperback press using pulp paper could handle, so you'd get things like: Which some of those could be better, that's on my part, but compared to just printing the map in monochrome: and on top of that the monochrome would be a halftone mess unless you made it one of the plates pages, which costs money. I think modern map designers could learn something like that when conveying important information about chips for vision inclusiveness (and I like it too).

I agree with you that it is a strong move initially, It's along the lines of what big John's 'they should be' response was to being told 'but banks and big business are afraid of you'. I don't know if you can keep that momentum though. Big John's tactic there was to then position labor more favorably than the tories in terms of brexit which hilariously had those banks and businesses taking them seriously, but the daily heil would be relentless on a self-confessed commie. Turning it around, if Lab had owned the AS smears it uh.. wouldn't have gone well at all.

Yeah sorry, I know you weren't meaning that at all it was just too grim not to mention. Corbyn et al's attempts to 'handle' the issue were from the right place imo- it's clear from the lab AS report that any good faith work they put into tackling AS was headed off by the neolibs. Being firmer at calling out the bullshit would have been nice but I can't see it getting them very far without also defeating the attempts of the wreckers within.
