Modern journalism doesn't investigate or discover things, that's why it's such a big deal when they actually ever report on anything that isn't after some sort of official announcement or major event. I'd imagine most of them don't even know what Fleet Street was.
This was one of the pillars of my Grand Unifying Bullshit Theory I had last month. Essentially rehashing the first episode of the Patriot Act (thanks for the recommendation Rarity), but with an added rant about how national papers tend to hire out of universities rather than local papers, and journalism students are mired by a lack of practical experience so just retweet whatever they see, with an added dash of bullshit artists tending to be the ones who succeed in any given career.

I do worry sometimes that I'm starting to join dots that aren't there when I do posts like that, and then like clockwork a report or leak will come out and it turns out I was most of the way there.

On the score of drinking, judging by the street outside being a popular shortcut to the local pubs the absolute lads are out in force and hoping to get themselves thoroughly peppered with covid, or at the very least making plans to combine it with super-gonorrhea.

Thread forgive me for my hypocrisy. It was for research.

Popped in for a swift half to see how it looked and yeah, there were two tables of people obviously distancing with just their own group but most people weren't giving a toss about social distancing, like drunk singing along to the jukebox, sitting at the bar when the hastily printed A4 sign clearly says not to and it was hot in too there was even condensation on the windows. Maybe nobody in that pub was carrying covid and it's fine but if anyone was then half the people in there just caught it.

I reckon how malicious Starmer feels depends a bit on peoples brexit views. Not an attack but people that were really anti-brexit were inclined to ignore that the stance Starmer spearheaded all but guaranteed Dudley North, Redcar, Lincoln etc etc were definitely going to be lost, I'm sympathetic to the objective fact that most Labour members wanted to stop brexit, for the best of reasons too, but going against the referendum result was only going to end in a battering.

Part of Starmers wierd 'BLM is a moment, can't wait to get a pint in' poo poo is so obviously culture war stuff to appeal to the same constituents that he deliberately pushed away in 2019 that it strains credulity that he was magically unaware of them a year ago. Genuinely believe Starmer deliberately pushed not respecting the referendum result to ensure a massive electoral loss to kill corbynism, your idea that he's just dumb and boring is a much bigger reach than that.

Those sure are some comments on that video right there:

quote:

it looks bad, but three things have to be taken into account:
1) what does the unedited complete footage look like?
2) the police aren't there to be argued with, if you had followed their instructions without arguing the outcome would likely have been more relaxed.
3) if the police are to shy away from confrontational citizens, this sets a dangerous precedent for genuine criminals seeking to avoid arrest.

quote:

- Acting like hes tweaking
- Conveniently pre-edited
- Conveniently returning from an interview claiming to be oppressed.
... it's almost like it was set up

quote:

Hello Ryan, you are in the wrong in this video. You are politely informed youre being detained and decide to faff abouit not cooperating untill youre garunteed you wont be handcuffed, that's not up to you, handcuffs are an officer safety tool and it's up to the officers discrestion/the law (there are some instanced where you HAVE to be cuffef, of course).
Irregardless of wether or not the police are targetting you for some reason. irregardless of everything, from the 60 seconds i see here youre in the wrong.

And there's a fair amount of them along those lines.

All good abstract concepts unattached to individuals to warn the future about.

Can't get no luck.

When Boris referred to his £250k/year Telegraph salary as "Chicken Feed" this is what he was thinking about.

He did it with his "Garden Bridge" project, then they did it again with the ferryless ferry company, and again with Dyson and others with the ventilator scheme - you pay (a vast some of money) for a project and then call it off, the money is then written off and the people you've paid don't actually have to deliver anything.

Or you pay for "consultancy" or "feasibility studies" and the like and then decide "Oh woops turns out it's not a good idea after all" but the money is now gone.

This is, in my mind, the whole and entire reason for Boris to have sought to be PM.

In a just world, he would be dragged out into the street and beaten by all the people he's stolen from, but of course like with the Panama papers, nothing will happen.
