Maybe I'll be wrong but at least in the immediate future I don't see people hating on Mahomes like they did ARod. I mean I'm sure there will be some, and I know I'm going to hear a lot of laughing about the Chiefs not being able to put a team around him together. But I feel like most will just be 'well poo poo, but if anyone it might as well be him.'

Eh, win a few more playoff games and everyone will hate and be sick of him. It's pretty great to be honest, highly recommend it.

So do you think "gently caress you Jurruh" was explicitly written in the contract or just heavily implied?

Rodgers didn't get much "hate" in the way that you're thinking of until after around 2015 or so.

The NFL reacted to Rodgers's 2010/2011 in more or less the same way they're reacting to Mahomes's 2018/2019.

People got incredibly mad about watching the 2007 Patriots offense all the time. Some people just get really broke brained / jealous about watching offensive pornography.

Like think about some of the stuff people say about JJ Watt's milky rear end.

As long as they can keep drafting WR and emptying out the prisons the chiefs will be fine.

Cap hell will be offset by ring chasing free agents.

I mean tbh the Bengals are one of the top teams in defensive spending and as much as I love a nice, intimidating, penetrating D, defensive spending definitely doesn't guarantee that at all.

Oh sorry, I meant Alex Rodriguez. There was immediate backlash for the guy who was at the time arguably the best player in baseball when he signed his big contract with the Rangers.

Which looks kind of quaint these days but didn't back then.

Mahomes got rich staying home, A-Rod left town and baseball even more than other sports seems to have this "WHAT ABOUT THE LOYALTY?" poo poo despite the fact that you make a fraction of your value usually until you're on the back end of your prime

That was with the Yankees right? If so , that was at least in the zeitgeist of when the Yankees were just buying all the best players so everyone hated them for that.

Damnit I knew someone was gonna quote that before I noticed it, ha.

But no the hate started when he signed with the Rangers for 250 million. The Yanks traded for him later on.

No it was the Rangers, the Yankees traded for him once the Rangers realized there was no point paying him the richest contract in the league and finishing last every year
