The city where I went to college had an auxiliary of the Fraternal Order of Eagles Aerie #666 (the main lodge is in Ft. Wayne), and they enjoyed playing up the combination of acronym and number, with menacing-looking signs reading "FOE 666". I always smiled when I passed them.

Thanks! I thought it had something to do with unions, but wasn't sure exactly. The "<organization> local <number>" template is just intriguing for some reason. I don't think Australian unions have that format.

I can confirm, atleast for my union IATSE (Stagehands) it is the order in which they were organized. NYC is Local 1. Chicago is Local 2. I'm with Local 51 in Houston. After awhile our numbers did start getting a little wonky as our jurisdiction expanded to cover more than just typical touring shows. Now that we cover convention work, TV, Film, Editing etc. There's some weird numbering going on. In Houston IATSE Local 51 is the "big" local, handling most of the stagecraft and live performance. But there's also IATSE Local 896 which is the wardrobe local, who are actually the stitchers and dressers on stage. 896 also covers wigs, hair, and makeup. Now if you want to shoot a commercial in Houston, you're going to want to talk to IATSE Local 484. Their office is in Austin, but they cover Texas and Oklahoma. That being said, being part of a "double digit" local is something most IA members would consider a point of pride. Edit: I should also mention that each union can have a Local 51. For example IATSE Local 51 are Stagehands in Houston, Texas. UA Local 51 are pipefitters in Providence, Rhode Island. Ironhead has a new favorite as of 16:37 on Jul 16, 2020 |

The little xylophone bit in Somebody That I Used to Know is a slightly altered Baa Baa Black Sheep. Also similar to Twinkle Twinkle Little Star and the ABC Song I guess but closer to the other one. My brain has decided to remind me of this every five minutes. I hope to cure myself by inflicting it on you.

I picked the union local number in my av text because I formed the union and I just like the number 34. Plus I'm the only member, so I can do what I want.

There's this Mary Kate and Ashley song that sounds really, really familiar... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MwmrjfuDRNk It's "I Like Marijuana" by Mojo Nixon (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=itCBhvNr-ns). Like, the exact same song. Only with "Peanut Butter" Ctrl-F'd in. This is my greatest archaeological discovery.

12 bar blues is fun. It's like it's just encoded in everyone's brains automatically. It just sounds good. And the blues is the basis for rock & roll, so there's a lot of it in rock & roll too. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0oox9bJaGJ8 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=V6hQ9HSKlIE https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Zyhu2ysqKGk https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dFjAUbeEqAo
