I went to Liffey Valley today to drop off a full bag of Nespresso coffee pods for recycling. I also wanted to get food from M&S as they have lots of GF stuff. I had been there two weeks ago and the place was a ghost town. Only about four shops open. This time when I went in it was jammed. Less than 1/10th of people were wearing masks. Also when I went to to in through the M&S door the staff explained that you couldn't access the rest of the shopping centre through M&S, you had to go around the other side. This caused the man in front of me (not wearing a mask) to shout out how "the Corona Virus was just an excuse to order people around."

Politically a lot has happened in the last few weeks. The Government was formed and immediately suffered a car crash arising out of two different ministers having undeclared brushes with the law. A far right party had a rally in Dublin and got laughed at by the media, mainstream and social. But the most amusing story is Keogh's potatoe farm getting busted for cultivating weed. The current theory is that Mr. Tayto shopped them.

It depends what you are in the mood for. Sometimes I want Hunky Doreys. Some times I want Ripples. Some time King (normally the best.) There are times I love Tayto (both Bistro and normal packs.) And of course the Smokey Bacon flavours. Oh and Barry Cowen has been sacked. That's got to be some record for a Government losing a minister so fast. Edit: And now he's on Twitter saying that he's being unfairly railroaded. Now I can well believe that the Gardai added extra details about this incident for the sake of getting a conviction. I also can well believe that Barry Cowen is the type of Privileged guy who would convince himself that he wasn't evading arrest when he did pull a U-turn before the Garda checkpoint because he was driving home for an unrelated reason. I'm a King man myself, now. Can I ask, cos I think this would be a good place to. The March for Innocence (which I found big professional stickers for up on lampposts in random housing estates??) was thankfully ignored by most outlets it looks like. But if I had to guess, the description of the event sounds very populist. (" We are marching against Paedophiles! All of them!! If we chant very loudly they will all leave.") I am guessing that the people who are going to that event (which is designed to be emotive) are going to be predisposed to a fight. Even before you have peoe give passionate speeches. I saw a video on Twitter of John Connor yelling full on at a journalist, and if he was giving a speech with the same level of energy, I'm not surprised that there was fights.

It was organised by the fash to try link the new minister to some UK Labour dude who said dodgy poo poo one time due to them both being gay. Because antifa are generally sensible people most of them stayed at home what with the global pandemic and all. This led the scum to realise that they weren't outnumbered and when they got to 10/1 odds they were brave enough to make a run at the few people who turned up to oppose them. It's worth noting that the "P9" and noose signs are a reference to the National Party's policy to execute anyone who provides an abortion, so that's the level of fuckwit who turned up at this "peaceful anti-pedophilia rally".

Yes it was real stupid. That being said, from what I remember, Peter Tatchell did have some questionable comments in the past about the age of consent and how it should be lowered. Again, I’m sure he’s famous for his campaigning for LGBT rights, but he’s one of those old school ones who has probably supported some campaigns that have not aged well. I think the Halloween costume is something that O’Gorman should be rightly called up over. Not because dressing like a classical painting means that he supports child brutality. But if someone comes to a Halloween party dressed as an obscure classical painting, it is almost certain that the reason they did so was so people would have to ask them over and over again “what is your costume.” And that just means he’s a knob.

Eh, "vaguely old fashioned 80s opinions about stuff" is drastically underselling the problematic nature of Peter Tatchell's views. Hes literally on the record defending sex between adults and children between the ages of 9 and 13: Tatchell is extremely controversial and its not without cause O'Gorman being pulled up for being associated with him. It also wasn't just an innocent/accidental photo where O'Gorman could claim ignorance of who he was posing next to, O'Gorman tweeted the photo specifically tagging Tatchell: https://t.co/E9L0ukxTLX

Some older gay rights guys have stupid and or hosed up opinions about things. It's the reason you didn't have someone like norris front and centre for marriage equality. Dinosaurs like that we're useful for getting rich people to think about gays as something other than subhuman, because they were educated to the same extent and of the same class. They can be safely ignored and treated as an embarrassment at this point. This whole reactionary wave we've seen is comical, but we shouldn't forget that they are fascists and must be treated as such. This anti-gay pedophile false equivalency is an old tired tactic and will be refuted again.

I mean old fashioned as these discussions about the age consent did cross over with a generation of gay rights campaigners who largely came of age before the decriminalisation of homosexuality and age of consent parity - for example comments made by a certain well known bearded senator that resurfaced during his presidential campaign nine years ago But last I checked people don't throw a poo poo fit if someone is photographed with David Norris

Am I nuts or does the 3 tiers of Covid relief seem like they should be back to front? I went back to work the other week but not before they cut my covid pay, which.. uh must be due to an average over the year or something because I usually make over 300 quid a week easily. But surely people who were making less before the pandemic have a greater need now?? Why do people missing out on better paid jobs deserve MORE help? Tbh this would bother me anyway even if I was in a good spot but as it stands if we all get locked in again I might be in trouble. Wear your masks for Shoehead pls

Shes run for election 3 times and lost each election. A smart person at this stage would realise the problem is themselves/their policies, and make changes. Not throw a tantrum and blame pesky democratic elections for keeping her from power. This mini split (if Neasa Hourigan and Lorna Bogue and others leave too especially) is great news for Eamon Ryan. He just scraped a win in the Green leadership contest tonight, so having the radical left element of the party break off will only make him more secure as the head of the moderate/centrist wing.

The demolishing of the democratic system in Weimar Germany was the action that resulted in rather a lot of problems, not the election of Hindenburg. All recent history suggests that anyone who rants about how useless elective democracy is tends to end up being a horrendous despot. Democracies may elect some terrible people, but the system of elections does at least almost always moderate their actions more than any other political system humans have invented. FF, FG and the Greens got 50.2% of the national vote between them. And 53% of TDs. How on earth did their forming a government disenfranchise "a massive chunk of the electorate"? They've got awful policies, but they between them won a majority of both the national vote and the elected representatives. The current government by any definition its a completely legitimate democratic government, that literally represents the majority of the country.
