I'm about twenty hours into Dragon Quest XI, after not playing a Dragon Quest since Dragon Warrior on the NES when I was a kid. It's pretty cool -- it's fun to play a cartoon. So far it's a little more linear than I would like, but I think it's going to open up a little bit more now (just got past Puerto Valor). Two things, though:

1) So Vince is kidnapping fighters and feeding them to a giant spider monster. The town finds out and they ... cheer for him, since he always gave them a good show? That's a little ... odd.
2) Holy crap, the slots in the casino are addicting. I don't know what the hell is going on with the slime quest slot game, though.

I'm impressed at how well the game makes me care about the silent protagonist, like when returning to his burned down hometown or meeting Grandpa Rab. And the Fun-Size Forge is surprisingly fun!

pachislots are slot machines where a bunch of random crap happens that vaguely seems like you are playing a game. it is not a game, and it all runs automatically.

Don't play those just do the normal slots. Yuji Naka is obsessed with gambling and those weird game like slot things are big in Japan so they're in it

The town doesn't find out. Only your party knows. He doesn't even outright announce that he's juicing.

I mean honestly, Naka probably does spend time at pachinko parlours too so maybe it's not far off from the truth

So I guess Rab and the Luminary just decide he
did it "for the kids" and he promises not to do it again, so it's all good? That's messed up.

The danger passed, he's more important as an inspirational figure, and all that. It's a fairy tale, morality is simpler. Toriyama doesn't write Dragon Quest, but his works often feature people who blow up entire planets eventually becoming good guys.

Dragon Ball is hilarious that way. Every time Goku sees freiza, a guy who killed his entire race and hates his guts and trains to kill him every day, he's like "Hey it's our good friend Freiza! How's it going Frieza?"

Does Square still stop updating their apps randomly leaving them in various states of playable? I've got almost $20 in survey credit and was thinking about buying an older dragon quest on my phone but the prices seem steep considering all the bad I've heard about Squares app support.

Most of the SE stuff on Android/iOS has carried across versions fine, except for uhhh..Chaos Rings I guess.

Goddamnit I'm getting overlevelled trying to find a Brollympian in the mural zone. I just want that golden umbrella enemy.

Edit: Complaining on the internet worked.

Edit2: And the panda was super easy to find, are some of the rare spawns rarer or is this just random chance striking again.

There was an insane amount of content added to the Switch version so it's not like they could add more to it. The only thing against the Switch version was the graphics didn't look as good as PS4/Steam, so that's fixed.

Even though I have no plans on buying it since I have the regular version on Steam and S version on Switch, I hope the Steam version has an upgrade path for those who bought the regular version.

For sure. I got the Switch version for my copy. I was just through off by there being both "S" and "Definitive" additions to the title, so I figured one of the two was added for this round of releases.

Not interested in playing through DQ11 again. It's a good game but it's not worth playing through more than once.

Now DQB2, that deserved more content. I need an excuse to keep playing that.

If you have to ask probably not, really it’s like 80% More Game and 20% Stopping the World Of Ruin which means no more dead Veronica and I guess lots of other dead NPCs.

I think you can explore some of the towns to do the victory lap you’d usually do as part of the endings to the games though
