Carnival is supposedly selling 6 of their older ships as well. Rumor is the old Fantasy class machines are being sold or scrapped.

So far no notices about our cruise in late October (NCL).

And now Royal Caribbean has halted operations through Sept 15, with the exceptions of some China sailings and the 2020 Bermuda season (Grandeur of the Seas and Adventure of the Seas), which is suspended until October 31.

I always wanted to try out the Seaside. Back before the Covid chaos they had some decent deals for solos. Being in Port Canaveral does make it much more convenient for me.

Fame Douglas posted:The only cruise ships currently operating in the "western world" seems to be the NickoVision, on the Rhine river at the moment. There was a TV news report about it, the ship has a passenger capacity of 220 but onboard were only 35 cruisers. I want to correct myself, apparently Hurtigruten is cruising around Norway (only carrying Norwegians) as well.

Took mine over 2 months from Regent, but I did get it in it's entirety. Now if only Delta would offer refunds instead of flight credit...

Welp, we’re booking a trip on the Mardi Gras for November. 2021. Fingers crossed that the vaccine is a thing and we’re getting back to “normal” in 16 months.

Two of the most popular nerd cruises, Star Trek and JoCoCruise have both had their early 2021 dates cancelled. Don't blame them at all. There's no way I'm getting on a boat next March if there's not a widely-administered vaccine by then, which seems unlikely.

Yeah it seems like cruising is going to be done for a while. But I have found reading the Cruise Critic forums amusing for their insanity. Sure plenty of people are realists but there are also lots who think the cruises lines should just start sailing again with no changes. Or even just ignore the CDC because cruise ships are just a scapegoat and not a serious concern for virus spread: https://boards.cruisecritic.com/topic/2755987-ignoring-cdc-cruise-regulations/ quote:

I just got an email from RCCL about their new Muster 2.0 program. Instead of having the one muster drill that everyone has to attend, you can go to your assigned muster station anytime before the ship sails and check in with the crew member there. They will give you all the muster instructions personally and then you can be on your way. The point of it is to avoid crowding so many people into a tight space, obviously. I know this will be a headache for the crew, but this sounds so amazing! I hate the muster drill and just being able to go and get it out of the way sounds so nice. I hope all cruise lines start doing it this way from now on.

Yep, JoCo head office sent out an email the other day, saying the 2021 cruise is being moved to 2022. Everyone who was already booked for 2021 gets to keep their booking or turn it into a credit for the 2023 cruise. And the next deposit isn't due until March 2021 now, which gives everyone way more time to pay for their bookings.

Hubster was on a Princess Cruises call today... one new bad thing, full refunds on cruises now have to be done by 180 days, and not 90 days like it used to be. Also, virtual musters, etc.

WhiteHowler posted:I wish I'd known that was going to happen before I cancelled my booking last month. I probably won't be able to get that room type ever again. They're going to be reopening bookings, once they've dealt with all the cancelations and credits, plus doing some site maintenance. So I wouldn't give up on being able to rebook if you want to do 2022? There's a long time between now and when the sailing is. But you're right that there's more important things, so I also wouldn't stress about it. A lot of people are likely going to miss the 2022 cruise, after all.

It was fine. I was actually talking with SB about it trying to remember literally anything about that ship and I just can't. It was basically the same as any other Carnival ship I've been on in the past 5 years. Like, they're literally all the same.

This a video from the bridge when the beached Monarch of the Seas last week https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yPpY9EMSWeM Shortly after that sister ship Sovereign of the seas was also beach right next to it, both are being sold for scrap. Sovereign was the first modern mega cruise ship built by Royal Caribbean and set off the crazy ship size race. They have one of these types of ships left, Majesty of the Seas. But the fact they are scrapping big ships like this shows how badly they are hurting for cash.

Atricks posted:This a video from the bridge when the beached Monarch of the Seas last week https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yPpY9EMSWeM It certainly says something about the industry as a whole, when a ship gets scrapped, rather than being sold on to one of the smaller companies. Or the old shell game of moving the ship between subsidiaries, like royal princess / artemis.

Great idea. We'll shut down all cruises when the U.S. has ~3000 daily infections, and start 'em back up when the daily rate is up to 78,000.
