LloydDobler posted:

Yeah the right are experts at that.

A friend listened to Peter Schiff on Joe Rogan recently, who is a libertarian rich guy. My friend asked me to help debunk him because "he was making a lot of sense" to someone he knew.

His overarching theme is standard libertarian: Everything bad is the government's fault and private enterprise solves everything. Regulations kill business and businesses would always do the right thing if they just didn't have these mean regulations over them, including charity and fair wages.

Meanwhile he tells the tale of how when the government distributed PPP a whole bunch of corrupt private businesses claimed funds by lying on the forms. But this is somehow still the government's fault because they didn't properly oversee the distribution. He even excused the businesses by saying "if the government says they're giving out free money, of course people are going to lie to get it". And then goes on to say he didn't get any because he would have had to lie on the form and he's too ethical for that. Never mind that policing the applications would require bigger government, and enforcement of regulations.

And he doesn't see any contradiction in anything he's saying.

In any hypothetical libertopia, the first thing the people running it would do is make a government and start making rules.

With a primary emphasis on ownership, law enforcement, punitive penalties and incarceration, naturally.

Records from the New Hanover County 911 center show that a friend of Mike Adams called after not seeing him for several days, telling a dispatcher that the UNCW professor had been ‘erratic’ for several weeks and ‘under a lot of stress.’ Dispatch records also indicate the cause of death was likely a gunshot wound.

The call came in around 12:26 p.m. on Thursday afternoon. The caller noted that Adams’ car had been parked at the residence for several days but that the caller had not seen him.

Asked if Adams had any physical or mental issues, the caller said friends were concerned because Adams had been “erratic for the last few weeks — not erratic ‘dangerous,’ but just he’s been under a lot of stress.”

These eight cases are all true except for one thing: The Christians who were bullied by gays and gay activists are all still alive. Not a single one has committed suicide. That is because they have centered their lives around Jesus Christ, rather than their sexual identity. And no amount of bullying can change my mind about that.

I think the nucleus around which that hate can form is an unspecific feeling that you, personally, are being hosed over, as evidenced by the fact your life is not exactly how you wish it to be, and, by God, it's someone else's fault!

If you're being specifically targeted by actual, real things that exist, it's easy to focus your frustration on whatever is targeting you. If your life is just a shambolic mess because you're a fuckup, then you start looking around for things to blame. For example, if your wife leaves because you're an emotionally unavailable, lazy manchild who wishes to be waited upon hand and foot, instead of interrogating your own contributions to the situation, you may decide that, really, the problem is feminism telling women they shouldn't have to put up with that poo poo. If you notice that your D-average failson can't get into a good university because they spent the entirety of high school smoking weed and watching porn, then perhaps you will reason that the problem can't possibly be related to you, but is instead related to affirmative action taking away your son's inherent right to be a useless fuckup with no consequences.

This. It's horrifying how much Fox works to channel anger towards the "other." The few times that I do end up seeing it inadvertently, the vast majority of it is hatred. Hell, the defenses of Trump are that if it weren't for that nasty "Deep State" then he would be making the economy great again and all of us could go work in factories for enough money to afford a house! Hate the government, hate immigrants, hate other countries, hate liberals, all of them are holding you back, and never once bother to actually reflect on yourself.

They used to do a segment called 'Around the World in 80 seconds', not sure if they do nowadays.
And it would mainly show random stuff probably meant to subtlely make you think that it was dangerous, or that they were silly stupid.
Like natural disasters to make you think 'poo poo I wouldn't like to be there!', and weird traditions to make you think 'haha stupid foreigners'.
Some are like '300 shot dead in riots in Whatchaistan' with no context why then 5 seconds later 'look at them throwing tomatoes at each other at this festival haha!'
Great at making you think the US was the only sane safe country.

Yeah, when I talk to my Trump-loving and Fox news devouring relatives, they cite the same issues I do. They just differ massively on the causes (not conservativing hard enough), and the solution is always to either kick out or destroy a group of the "other" (defund gubment, remove illegals, etc.).

Not all children who are savagely beaten by their parents grow up to be abusive. Yet, when you control for other factors, it becomes clear that the savage beatings are, in fact, the problem.

There’s probably more to it in the sense that the human brain is extremely complicated, and what makes people people is entirely beyond our understanding at this point, but when you find a common trigger shared by all or most of the people you’re trying to “fix,” that’s the thing you worry about.

LEGACY OF HOPE” by Jon McNaughton

I have been discouraged by the times in which we live—a battered economy, a confusing pandemic, civil unrest, riots, and the blind rage of those who seek to destroy our country. What’s even more troubling, is that many in the mainstream media have seemingly joined forces with those who are actively (and seditiously) trying to burn America to the ground.
While thinking about these things, the White House released a photograph—a photograph that gave me… hope.

The photograph shows a group of black religious and political leaders, surrounding President Trump and praying for him—praying for the nation. To say that this image inspired me would be an understatement. Here stood a group of men and women—Americans—praying for God to help President Trump!

It was a photograph of faith and hope for the future.
And as I thought about that hope, I couldn’t help but think about our HISTORY—our legacy of hope. Contrary to what some might tell you, the United States didn’t begin in 1619, with the first importation of slaves. The United States has a specific birthdate—it began in 1776. It began when we not only declared our independence from a system that introduced slavery to the New World, but our country also began when we declared that all men and women are created equal.

From that day forward, great men and women—people like George Washington, Harriet Tubman, Abraham Lincoln, Thomas Jefferson, and Frederick Douglass—have risen up and have fought and died to ensure that this nation lives up to its founding creed.
As Americans, we share a legacy of hope that should never be forgotten.

Don't you tell me my business again.
I kinda want to put this here since I know the CEO's of Apple, Google, Amazon and FB had their thing today. My post would get buried in USPOL thread and whatever.

Real curious how RWM reported on this since I know Trump hates Bezos and thinks FB and Google are biased. Christ, is there anything these whiny bitches don't think has a liberal bias? But the thing that made me sad is not one congressperson inquired about the deplorable working conditions for any of these companies, which I've come to understand universally suck - Amazon in particular - where these workers are basically slaves.

If I were a member of congress, that's what I'd be asking about, along with privacy concerns but that ship has already loving sailed and you're naive if you think otherwise.

Back on track though, I'm still really curious what angle FOX and AM radio took regarding this since it's Big Government coming down on the free market but, at the same time, they bitch about at least two of these "job creator" CEO's and, of course, none of them care about monopolies and poo poo like that. I hate to give FOX any clicks so maybe someone can tell me how they're parsing this since it's so self contradicting in so many ways.

If i had to guess, I'd assume they're being selective and that the focus is mainly on Bezos, who is richer than Trump and runs that "fake news" newspaper.
