Quarantine is a hell of a thing.

Last month I splurged and bought a bunch of Gundam, and as I was building a Psycho Zaku (those of you unfamiliar, think red kinda space marine-looking dude with a full foot of rockets strapped to its back in the 1/100 scale) I needed to apply a water slide decal. So I wanted some Mr. Mark Settee and Softer and then topcoat to protect it...and if I’m going to topcoat, dammit, I should use use an airbrush...

A month later I have a craft table that I built from scratch, a spray booth, some paint and tools, and NOW have justified buying 40k for Kill Team because a.) my wife is on board with detailing what I prime and base coat and b.) I’d like a lot of practice in between painting Gundam, which take me a long time to prep (I sand each part individually and so on).

Anyway. Hello. You have a very nice hobby here and I’m excited about it. I’ve got some Space Wolves and some Deathwatch needing assembly (I loved the Deathwatch team of outcasts/elites lore and space wolves are just loving neat). My wife gets the Tau (I read they’re quite strong, and generally in board games I have a better strategic sense than her, so I thought it would be more fair?).

I guess what I’m saying is FOR THE EMPEROR

The important part is that the Tau have fully automated gay space socialism and their battlesuits might as well be gunpla

Well the Riptide and larger suits look kinda like Rick Diases

A friend recommended me the Tau for the Gunpla reason, but I am not as big a fan of their long range-centric combat (why have Mecha suits if you’re not gonna Mecha duel with stupid beam swords?).

But this way I get to mess with their models and not play them; win-win.

Commander Farsight has stupid beam swords but he's like literally the only dude in a battlesuit who has ever bothered picking them up.

I do wonder why there's not a sword and board riptide variant from forgeworld or something for this reason

Technically the only thing that may qualify is commander farsight, who really needs a plastic model some time

I think the designers has soundly slotted the Tau into the ranged army category and therefore don't really put much effort into melee options for them.

They're not really super competitive but they're literally the T'au version of Char Aznoble and the Seven Samurai fighting alone against countless odds. They definitely seem like they rule to model/put together. I kind of want to play Tau just to have a gimmick army with them.

Okay, let's try more stupid prediction, then, not withstanding my failures earlier on this page of the thread. Same body pose, different gun. What could that mean?

-Extra sprue added to existing Intercessor kit to give them more gear options?
-Extra sprue sold separately as a Heavy Intercessor Upgrade Kit to give Intercessors more gear options?
-New kit entirely, but they re-used the existing Intercessor poses because this is all done in CAD and it was easier to copy and paste the existing Intercessor body pieces into the sprue design file than make new poses? (That lone Intercessor that comes with the Getting Started with 40k magazine has the same pose as one of the three Easy to Build Intercessors, so they've done this before....)
-New kit entirely, body is actually a slightly different pose and I just can't tell because of how blurry the pic is?

It's trivial to use the same 3D model pose with different pieces, you can see it in several of the current Primaris Space Marine characters. New kit entirely.

Did you paint the blade by hand or with and airbrush? If it's by hand what technique did you use?

Unless you think you're going to assemble and paint the entire squad before October, I'd probably wait until the new codex is out.

Even then I'd probably say it would be worth it to wait just so you don't have to remove it if it's not an option (or curse if it is and you decided not to).

So the sword of the new Primaris Judiciar is a Book of the New Sun reference, right?

The main character is a torturer/executioner (from a deeply far distant future) who wields a massive sword that’s flat at the end called Terminus Est.

I think in both cases they're referencing historical execution swords that had the flat end.

For the whites I built it up using Celestial Grey and Ulthuan Grey. For the chips, I used a darkish brown and sponged it on using a piece of pluck foam then did Apothecary White all over then highlighted some edges with white.

Kitchner posted:

For the blade, I based white then used Warp Lighting pushing it in opposite directions on the blade. Applied 3 or 4 layers until it couldn't get any more green then a bit of nuln oil at the very end to darken. The other end is a couple layers of yellow ink blended into the green and finished with ivory edge highlights.

Anyone have specific recommendations for magnets / drill bits?

I bought a drill this weekend and the 3 bits it came with are way way too small for the ¼ inch magnets I already had

I'm not sure if this would cover your magnets but I bought it a couple of weeks ago and it was super cool for boring out gun barrels with some of the smaller bits

I bought this same drill I'm pretty sure (maybe different supplier but looks the same) and found it a bit of a chore to use, it doesn't spin smoothly when there's any pressure on it and squeaks a lot. It might just need to be oiled but a little annoying as I don't have any to hand. Maybe I was just unlucky, and at that price it's hard to care much.

The one I bought came with a bit that's perfect sized for barrels already :v: but thanks

I just need something for magnetizing my Plagueburst Crawlers and Plague Marines. And eventually Blightlord Terminators. But with the bits I have, i would need to drill like 10 different holes to make it wide enough for my magnets to fit. And they're almost surely too wide for Plague Marine arms.

But I think I found some 1/32" magnets and a bit at Home Depot, so :toot:

Yeah I got the same drill recently and it did need a few drops of oil. Luckily had some Hoppe's. I used 2x1mm for Space Marine head/wrists, 3x2mm for arms/backpacks. I even managed to drill the holes to magnetize a combi-bolter without ruining it!

1/32 might actually be too small, unless you mean 1/16 x 1/32 (2x1mm)? But even those might be too weak. I tried some from Amazon and they couldn't reliably keep Tactical Marines arms/backpacks secured. I ended up buying bigger 3x2mm magnets and those worked great.

The first I bought, ended up too weak to keep Space Marines held together

So GW has announced the starter sets and any and all rumors about those turned out to be false as it's still Necron vs Marines. But at the same time it looks like a good opportunity to grab some of the Indomitus units in a cheaper way.
Also reaffirm my theory earlier that the teaser from a while ago was for the multipart Bladeguards.

So we have three different starter sets; Recruit, Elite and Command. All adding an increasing number of models on either side.

The command one is probably the most interesting one because it also comes with non cardboard terrain.

Interesting. None of the starter sets have either of the two big sprues, with the Bladeguard, Eradicators etc. on the Space Marine side and the big walker and Plasmancer on the side of the Necrons. But between them they have all the other sprues from Indomitus.
