The only milestones that Star Citizen has achieved are its kickstarter stretch goals.

Yup 16 year dev cycle, this is why you have publishers. They are the bad guys that won't let the "creative" types and the developers turn a game into a never ending circle jerk of "what if's" and "wouldn't it be greats"
[/quote]

The most creative types work in R&D divisions of development studios, working out design or gameplay elements in future games. Nintendo is the most famous showing off their feats to the public.

CIG is all research and it consists of 2 things, how to scam backers with them praising and how to keep it going for years.

Buy it new? Nope, absolutely not.

But I'd pick up Squadron 42 without a second thought if I found it for five bucks in the bargain bin. Well, I might think twice if the reviews of it skew more towards "this is a fundamentally broken piece of software and is deathly tedious when it does work" instead of "holy poo poo it is WILD that someone actually made this and wanted people to see it!"

I’m loathe to give CIG any money, but I’d definitely watch the inevitable supercut of the game’s cutscenes on YouTube. I can’t wait to experience Chris’ terrible hack writing and directing completely unrestrained by a publisher or movie studio.

Yeah same. I'd be honestly delighted if it was ever worth more than that, but I don't think it will be.

No. Even if by magic it's relativity bug free and they make the combat okay the story is going to be trash and it is going to be filled with hours of intentionally boring gameplay. No loading screens but it take 5 minutes to run from one end of the capital ship to the other and 15 minutes to go from the capital ship to first combat encounter which takes 30 seconds to beat and then another 15 minutes to get to the second encounter.

Some guys have a midlife crisis so they get a convertible sports car and rent a young woman to sit in it next to them. For Chris the midlife crisis is to make a 90s CD-ROM FMV "game."

The problem is that cars and women remain viable decades after the initial desire; games don't. CD-ROM FMV "games" died for a very good reason. Recreating those failed experiments with today's technology is a fool's errand, otherwise known as a "Chris Roberts idea."

If it's on PC -- on Steam or GOG (or even Epic, although, eh)-- then probably yes.
Definitely not a day one purchase, and only if by some miracle it reviews really well and is fun to play.

However, this is entirely a fantasy scenario imho. I don't think a viable SQ42 will *ever* be released by CInotG. Not with how the company has approached the project so far and not while under Crobblers management.

MY BIRTH CRY WILL BE THE SOUND OF EVERY WALLET ON THIS PLANET OPENING IN UNISON.

This is another reason why this game is so funny. Even if nothing had gone wrong here you're in for an excruciatingly long 15 second animation just to get out of your bed. It doesn't sound that long but being forced into it even a few times would quickly drive you mad.

No CIG knows game development and they say players like forced long animations for things all the time because it's immersive especially getting killed while stuck in one right after checking out the play character's groin.
Also bad debris physics and last, last gen effects, they love that too.

Although I love shooting people stuck in animations in multiplayer games, so they win there.

And it's also there for a bullcrap reason. You know, fidelity and IMMERSHUN.

A question for you, fellow FUDsters. How often do you wake up and get up in the exact same way? I know for sure I sometimes tend to lie and enjoy the bed, while other days I spring up from bed and run off.

And how long will it take to human brain - which is specifically developed over millennia to pick up paterns - to notice that it's always the same and thus counter-immersive?

I give it about 2 - 3 repeats of this process. The fact that Citizens don't talk about this is mostly denial and clinging to at least something in the game that half-works.

Already own it, legitimately would be excited to play it, because it's either going to live up to all its funding and time and be the best game in history (it won't do this) or it will be a complete turd and I'll get to laugh at it.
