I just make my own stuff with Hirst Arts plaster casting. You get to customize what you make, and if you want different stuff, drop $35 on another mold and start casting. That was back when I actually had spare time though.

I'd probably buy a 3d printer and make my own with the various resources out there. If I needed dungeon tiles.

I love my Hirstarts stuff a ton, but the amount of time any project takes from start to finish is pretty extreme. Making stuff is one of the coolest versions of adult Legos I have ever experienced but unless you are going to spends a few 8-12 hours work days just casting blocks it isn't probably worth it unless you are like me and just like it. People undervaluing their time is a really common mistake for projects like these. The shipping costs of 50lbs of dental plaster might be 50 bucks, but at least I can use my gaming terrain to bash down the door if I get stuck in a game room or something. You will need serious industrial shelves to store your buildings if you make anything big.

Cthulhu Dreams posted:The painting is the bit that makes it. Painting terrain and dungeons is way easier than painting minis. You can even use the cheapo craft paints without any real loss of quality because the pieces are so much bigger. Hirst Arts I used to cast for an hour or two while watching tv each day, letting the pieces dry and then throwing them in their storage bins. Then I'd have some build days while I played dungeon lego with them, then went through and painted them afterwards. It's definitely a process, and a sub-hobby, that takes a ton of time. My kids are getting old enough though that I can give them some monocolor pieces already cast, and get them to paint them up with me for some gamer hobby daddy-daughter time though. In a year or two we'll probably try casting out.

My 3d printer is used almost exclusinvely for RPG and wargame terrain. Files are pretty cheap, and you can make as many copies of something as you want. I've started using stuff from Printable Scenery, and also have a lot of Dragonlock stuff (they also just finished up a Kickstarter campaign). As was mentioned, painting terrain is much easier, especially for things like simple dungeon tiles. Prime black, heavy drybrush with grey, light drybrush with a ligheter grey, done. You can go hard if you want, but when you're painting 50 of the things, fast and good beats great.

I did a CTRL+F and "she" only appears once, referring to Kathleen Kaufman, and "her" only once in reference to the goddess Tara. "They" is always plural, except in the final Crafts section, where it's somehow used five times in three sentences. It reads like an attempt to avoid wrong pronouns by using no pronouns, which could be why it reads so stilted. I'd guess that "they" was overused throughout, then edited to "the witches," but missed in that last paragraph. (Or the last section was added post-revision.) I don't know how to parse a man-designed gender-neutral game about women. I'd guess he wants to avoid the subject of man-witches entirely. (Warlocks? He-witches?)

Yeah you're poo poo out of luck if you wanted it early. Shipping dates are already in the 2022s International only got 1 tier and it's Jan 2022. Honestly I'd just rather save my money for such a far away date, and I'd be able to actually afford the biggest table by then

There's an international backers wave 2 pledge now. Ships: Jan 2023 Dreaming. I'd be happy placing a $100 non-refundable deposit to secure a spot in line, but there's no way in hell I'd pay a grand for something 2 years away. Like I 100% get that these are heirloom quality artisinal tables that old mate has sanded to perfection over several weeks, and that poo poo takes time.. but They're already at 4.5 million with 60 days to go. This thing is going to break all kinds of records lol

I agree that they are more established, but I still imagine they might end up collapsing under the weight of so many orders. Furniture is significantly more volatile than boardgames, I would think. I am hoping for the best though!

I'm finally home from work and able to have a proper look at this. Even at the absolute basics of what I would like to buy it would cost me $2200AUD for a medium table /w topper shipped to Australia. I have not added accessories. It would not ship until Jan 2022. Almost 1 year and 5 months from now. Methinks a mass produced artisinal heirloom table is an oxymoron. Even if they halved the cost and it was a cheap mass produced table they ordered from china, I would still be hesitating on dropping a grand on something over a year away. Yeah nah. I'd rather spend this on a PS5 preorder. Nothing wrong with the table I've already got.

I took a look at the Wyrmwood Kickstarter expecting a huge mark up, but the prices based on the apparent quality is ... pretty drat good, actually. I had planned to make a large cherrywood gaming table and the wood alone was going to cost me $500 and then I would need to buy specialty tools if I wanted to make it nice like theirs (biscuit joiners, routers, etc.). That doesn't even account for my time and effort. Of course they have economies of scale, but while you could build a decent gaming table yourself in that amount of time, the modularity and slick accessories alone but this up into the very reasonable category. The higher end tables all use wood that's super loving expensive. My dad used to buy Paduak and Purple Heart for turning bowls, and that stuff wasn't cheap. I would say that if you're willing to wait, it's actually worth it.
