Dishonored 2 the visual fidelity really works against this game, it's easy to see important things in your deus exes and theifs. This game has so much random clutter and crap everywhere combined with actual non blocky polygons can make it exceedingly frustrating to actually find the things of import.

Also why do they feel the need to have so many useless interactables. The typewriter accomplish nothing

Higher weapon tiers give you more ammo options, which becomes important when you need to have a full complement of elemental attacks and tear. But Horizon's loot curve is actually quite flat, by the time you are wrapping up the Sacred Lands you already have access to everything you need to take down the biggest machines in the game. I've played through the entire game on Ultra Hard several times now, and I still have blue tier weapons by the time I'm killing Thunderjaws and Stormbirds.

Purple hunting bow gives you Hardpoint Arrows, which are my main go-to for dealing straight damage.

So I finally bought the ps4 edition of GTA V and I'm disappointed that the updates added barely anything new to the single player mode. I didn't expect it to dramatically change the game but I would have liked new activities and guns and clothing options. This isn't Rockstar's fault but my Wi-Fi is way too spotty to play online so all those cool new things are locked off from me.

Also the new songs they added to Vinewood Boulevard Radio suck.

I was just about to post the same thing. Does it really improve people’s immersion in a game when you can turn on a faucet, clack on a typewriter, or set the alarm in a clock?

At least from what I’ve seen (still very early in the game) they don’t even distract guards.

At least in the first game there was a charm you could equip to get mana back from faucets. ...Not that it really justified their presence even still.

Also I'm of the opinion that if your game is going to have working faucets, then I should be able to pull a Wet Bandits on every single one. :colbert: Hitman understands this.

I'm struggling to understand a reason for putting running stamina in Ghost of Tsushima. It doesn't affect climbing or anything else, and a ways into my second playthrough I don't think I've ever been in a combat situation where I'm running for long enough that it would matter. As far as I can tell, literally the only thing it does is pointlessly slow you down when you're on foot between missions or following a fox to its shrine. It's like it's just there because games have stamina meters now.

Weirdly, dodging resets your stamina if you aren't out already. So just dodge every now and then while running to keep your stamina topped up. It may sound ludicrous but it is actually very honorable for a samurai to get winded after several seconds of sprinting and Jin is just respecting his uncle's wishes.

Stamina meters for sprinting outside of combat/climbing desperately need to die. Do it like Death Stranding or not at all (and not every game should do that)

A Link Between Worlds had a neat "Stamina" gauge. Unlike previous games you have to rent out equipment like bombs, the bow, hookshot etc. You lose these items if you die and have to pay top-rupee for permanent ones. Instead of having the ammo for these tools as a depleting resource, they're all tied to the stamina gauge which quickly regenerates.

I tried my hardest to get into RDR2 and gave up, maybe the horses are great but I don't remember. This one's good because it doesn't feel too big and clumsy, and because the game mostly defaults to letting you jump over stuff even if it's unrealistic. I feel like a lot of games still fall somewhat into those traps.

I had not noticed, that's good enough to get around it at least. Even if Jin should grow past his uncle's teachings and do what needs done to save the island :colbert:

Exactly, I'm the same way. I don't know what's so tough to get about making them not clumsy or a pain. Like for Breath of the Wild I've spent maybe twenty minutes total using horses because they're a pain in the rear end, feel clunky, and every time I give in and try again it's eventually like "a six-inch incline? NOPE" and just stops in its tracks.

BOTW horses are weird because they’re fairly convenient for when you just need to cover distance, but in order to get that convenience you have to deal with them being suicidal fuckups that randomly and suddenly stall right next to an enemy or turn 60 degrees towards a cliff while galloping. they’re almost literally like those ruddha posts. raising their affection seems to have no effect on how often this happens, until you hit max affection and they instantly stop doing this entirely. Before that instant, they’re actively worse than running on foot and it’s too extreme

That is one of the single most baffling/aggravating decisions in that game. Like, if I'm already leaning against using horses for other reasons I'm sure as hell not gonna try harder if using them requires planning and constantly going out of my way before I can use them.

I'd like a game to explore the ramifications of memory loss, like by the time Link gets to Zelda in Breath of the wild he's never actually met her in person, certainly his key memories have returned, but the context and years of building feelings have not, and he has stronger relationships with the other people on his quest and Zelda at this point is more of a colleague to him. I'm speaking in general terms, obviously a Zelda game isn't the right franchise for that sort of story.

What are games that look like top-down Zelda, but have a Metroid progression? As in you'd have a naturalistic map that isn't strictly divided into an over-world with eight separate dungeons. Picture Hollow Knight but it's overhead like A Link to the Past.

World to the West kind of does that, it's top down, you have 4 characters with unique moves so each person can only access certain areas, but they unlock new moves so eventually every character can get everywhere.

This sooorta happens in Bahamut Lagoon, except not for the main character

Early on in the game the princess of the kingdom you serve, who was childhood best friends with the protagonist and swore to marry him when they got older, gets kidnapped when the king gets killed and the evil empire takes over. The protagonist rallies together a bunch of allies and the first third or so of the game is all of you trying to rescue the princess and defeat the evil empire. Except, hey, it’s been a long while. And while captured, the princess wasn’t treated badly. In fact, the general who watched over her is the most honorable guy in the empire, and the two of them got to know each other really well in the meantime. He treated her like a regular person and she ended up falling in love with him. She still cares about the protagonist, but mostly as friends, and ends up marrying this general who also defects from the empire to join you

Definitely a gut punch for me when I was a kid playing this game because you just really don’t see that sort of development ever happen! Kind of a sad ending for the protagonist but I applaud the writers for doing it

It's because getting the motorcycle is really hard. I diligently worked my way toward it and you have to finish pretty much all the content in the DLC to get it. It does own, though, and there's no reason whatsoever to use a horse after you get it.

The game can't always handle the speed of the motorcycle though so you can get minor loading issues.

I can't stand the Total War games because of the horrible engine. I love grand strategy, I love big sweeping multi-unit battles, but everytime I convince myself to play one I'm so thrown off by how basic and for lack of a better word, crunchy everything feels. The way you interact with the battlefield and unit interaction feels really basic to me in a "desperately needs polish" sort of way, and it bugs out so often as to be really dissapointing.

Ive tried Rome, TW:W1/2 and Brittania, and I've bounced off of each one the same. Love the setup, love the idea, hate fighting the awkward execution and jank.

I can't think of games that do them well, but:

Item durability

That part where your character is injured or something and can only walk very slowly

The character you're controlling telling you that he doesn't want to go that direction right now

Knee-high impassable obstacles
