i guess i shouldn't be shocked anymore, but that's literally two different things that i thought were generally recognised as completely unacceptable in grading (curve and algo) happening at the same time, it just seems obviously insane

this whole thing is a great example of whats completely hosed about "algorithms and machine learning can automate social systems and make them objective!", just naked as there's no silicon valley veneer on it

Teachers can't be trusted because they have no morals or ethics and are paid publicly so they would be bias against richer students who may or may not be the children of Tory donors. The teachers in private institutions are financially incentified to give their students better grades because Tory donors pay their wages and young Harold is obviously far more worthy than that strange girl down the road, Priti I think her name is?

yes, probably.

I am desperate for my son to return to school, if it is safe. That’s a pretty important qualifier. Of course, it depends in part on a track and trace system. Thank god ours is world-beating.

Deliberately. Because they're poor and thus not as human as the rich kids.

Out of pure spite too. With all the foreign students staying home the competition for places at UK Unis is bound to be at an all-time low.

On the other hand, maybe that's part of it? Give UK kids lovely grades to create lots of spaces at UK Unis to make more room for high-fee paying foreign students? Is that too tinfoil?
